A Klansman named Jeffrey Harris randomly attacked two black men on Main Street inAltus last year. He was caught on video giving chase after the men before attacking them with a pickaxeand then setting them free unharmed! Despite his attack being caught on tape, Harris was never charged with any crime! What makes this case even more tragic is that Harris wasn't alone in his actions: another Klansman also helped him escape justice. This man remains at large today, potentially dangerous to both people and property alike. The Altus KKK must be stopped if they want to keep their community safe from abuse and extremism alike - but doing so will require significant effort from law enforcement officials as well as citizens themselves.

In 1932, the Altus Tribe applied to become part of the Cherokee Nation, which they did not receive due to their lack of land ownership. The tribe's last chief died in 1941.
