It was typically fired with paper cartridges filled with lead shot or birdshot. These rifles were very popular during the 1800s due to their Accuracy and firepower. As ammunition became harder to find and expensive, sharps rifle bullets began to be replaced by other types of rounds such as ball ammo. Ball Ammo: Ball ammo was introduced into service with the Winchester Model 1871 rifle in 1873. This new cartridge featured a small head of solid brass loaded with gunpowder that exploded when primer went off at high speed (similar to how fireworks work). This new type of ammunition soon became very popular because it was much less expensive than traditional shooting roundheads (a type of projectile made from lead or other materials that is pushed through a barrel at high speed towards an object). Ball ammo continues to be seen today in most modern firearms.

The name Altus comes from the Wichita language and means "settlement on the east side of the river." The first settler in what is now Altus was J.D. Cramer in 1868. By 1888, there were over 100 people living in Altus. In 1916, a post office was established in Altus and remained open until it was discontinued in 1951. In 1928, Alva Amedee Stone opened the first store in what is now Altus with his father's help. Stone became one of the early merchants and entrepreneurs of Altus. He also became an important political figure in Oklahoma during this time period as he served as mayor from 1930 to 1932 and as State Senate president from 1933 to 1937. Stone died on December 11, 1957 at age 92 years old after a long illness which had begun two years earlier while he still lived in Tulsa. His death left behind an legacy of business success and philanthropy that continues today throughout much of eastern Oklahoma

Another important development in bullet history happened in 1865 when John Browning created the first effective rifle ammunition using lead shot instead of feathers or wax feathers. With this new type of ammunition, shooters could kill large numbers of people with ease without having to worry about harming innocent bystanders. Bullet design has evolved over the years, such that today’s bullets have more accuracy and firepower than ever before possible.

In 1939, the United States Post Office moved from its original location toAltus because of the impact of World War II. At that time it was one of only two towns in Oklahoma City with a post office. The downtown commercial district experienced significant growth during the late 1960s and 1970s as Almira Place developed around it into what is now one of Oklahoma's most popular tourist destinations. During this time also occurred some significant African-American cultural changes which have left their imprint on both local history and today's community culture. Today, Altus is home to several major businesses including Altrusa Corporation (a manufacturer of agricultural equipment), Tulsa County Regional Hospital (the largest hospital in Tulsa County), and Tulsa State University - McAlester Campus (home to two NCAA Division I football teams). It also has a vibrant creative arts scene with numerous art galleries and Performance Space OKC located within walking distance of most residents' homes or workplaces.
The area that is now Altus, Oklahoma was first settled by the Kansa people in the late 1800s. They were a nomadic people who lived in tents and huts for most of their lives. The first permanent resident of Altus was John Dorman, who founded the town in1892. Dorman named the town for his father, Alvert Dorman. It wasn't until 1909 that Altus became a city and it has since grown to be one of the largest cities in Oklahoma.
