The first post office in Ada opened on December 7, 1881. In 1907, a school was built and named for Mrs. A.S. Whitehead who donated land and provided supplies for the school district which included Ada. In 1912, construction began on what became known as "The Brick Church" which served as the first church in Ada. In 1916-1917, Ada experienced its biggest growth period when residents voted to create an inner city development area within the limits of the town that would have allowed more access to education opportunities for African Americans living outside of white neighborhoods near downtown Wichita Falls (now Wichita). This led to increased development around downtown with businesses including banks and grocery stores opening up shop inside black ghettos while white citizens continued to live east of downtown along Arkansas Avenue out into what is now Kiowa County's white farming areas! With only 2 businesses remaining open after prohibition ended in 1921 following World War I all other businesses closed down due to lack of customers or competition from adjacent cities like Wichita Falls which had legalized alcohol by that time! After prohibition Adas population dwindled until it reached its current size due mainly to military service stationed here during World Wars I-III which killed many people unable or unwilling to return home again once Prohibition ended! Today there are few if any businesses left operating in downtown Ada save two small convenience stores located off Arkansas Ave., both closed down since 2007; however this small business landscape has begunto change with new restaurants/stores opening up recently along Main Street revitalizing much old commercial architecture throughout central downtown area! ADAs rich history comes through on numerous occasions throughout each year like when Pawnee Folkloric Dance Festival takes place annually around October 10th featuring traditional music & dance performances by various styles including Cherokee Indians; Orphan's Day features adoption stories told by young children from local adoptions over Memorial Day weekend; Christmas Eve sees annual family tradition called "Pecan pie" with pies being prepared early morning before services start at First Baptist Church followed by candy canes distributed among families attending evening services; Easter Sunday sees traditional egg hunts happening all over central Downtown area culminating with an afternoon parade throughtown ending at western edge of city Limits

It became an unincorporated community in 1907. The town of Ada was platted in 1911 and became a municipality in 1925. It lost its status as a municipality after it merged with the city of Ada to form the current city of Ada on January 1, 2009. The original town site is now part of downtown Ada. The first settler to arrive in what is now Haskell County was John Chilton who settled near present-day Wichita Falls on August 14, 1881. By 1893 there were over 100 residents living in the area that would become Ada Township including some families from Canada and Mexico who had come overland through Santa Fe Trail junction at Edmondson Ford on their way to Kansas City Territory via Dodge City and Tulsa. In 1907, when the town of Ada was platted, all land southeast of Center Street within present-day downtown Ada (northwest corner of Fourth Avenue and First Street) except for about three acres eastbound on First Street (then called "Old Town") was included within present-day ADA boundaries as well as most of Old Town itself extending back to Third Avenue northeasterly from Center Street just north of where US Highway 36 crosses US Highway 21 today; this parcel would later be annexed by the newly formed city of Ada on January 1st 2009 In 1924 the original government building burned down which led to the construction of a new building which still stands today – this building is also known as "the old courthouse" or simply "the courthouse". This building served as both government office buildings until 1959 when they were replaced by new administrations buildings located across Mainstreet from each other just south of I-40 exit 191A/US 41 exit 191B during Interstate 40 Construction Project period while I-40 remained open concurrent with highway traffic On October 9th 1921 local farmers hired Ohlone Indians to clear land north side Market Road between 3rd & 4th avenues for pearsling operations soon followed by apple orchard established November 15th 1921 .
