Goodspeed and his wife Lila Mae Goodspeed as a small town on the Wichita River between Nowata and Tulsa. In 1912, the city of Ada was annexed into Ada County and the name of the town changed to Ada-on-the-Hill in honor of then-county seat Tulsa. The first post office opened in Ada on October 15, 1907. The first store was built by C.G. Sheppard near downtown Ada on what is now OK Highway 169/ Alternate State Road 711 (now US 191). A school for white children opened in 1908 on Main Street east of the present day courthouse building; it served until 1959 when it moved to its current location across from US 191/OK Highway 169 south of downtown Ada. The first black child born in Ada was Lily Bridges who lived with her grandparents John and Belle Bridges from 1921 until 1948 when she moved to Tulsa with her mother Louise King to attend segregated schools there; they were joined by their son John later that year when he became an employee at First National Bank north of downtown; In 1912, the city of Ada annexation into Ada County resulted in a name change for the town to "Ada-on-the-Hill". On November 2nd 1916 during World War I an airfield called "Oklahoma City Municipal Airport" (later known as Tinker Air Force Base) was located just east of present day OK Highway 169/ Alternate State Road 711 which served as primary ground for bomber operations over Russia during WWI while also providing military encampments and other services along with various other uses throughout most or all days during those years leading up until late 1944 or 1945 inclusive which included significant flying activity around & over our Nation's Capital At Tinker AFB more than any other airport within our borders & this operation continued until shortly after mid 1918 when we transitioned back under army control becoming Republic Of America Airport Still Okc."
