Ada is a city in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 43,541 at the 2010 census. Ada is the county seat of Muskogee County. Ada began as a small town on the north bank of the Arkansas River in 1881 when settlers from Texas and Kansas combined to form the Muskogee County Territorial Legislature. The town's name was changed to Ada in 1907 after Ada, Texas, which had been established by General James W. Carleton as Fort Worth Municipal Airport (now Wichita Falls Regional Airport). The City of Ada was established in 1912 when the towns of Haskell and Washita merged into Ada. At first, it consisted only of Cherokee Street between State Route 36 and US 84; but soon other streets were added including First Avenue east of US 84 and Woodward Avenue south of State Route 36. A new water tower was completed in 1916 and named for Mrs. Lillie Hargrave Johnston who donated $1,000 to help build it along with other civic improvements such as a streetlight system and reservoir that still exists today. In 1923 the city annexed additional land comprising present-day Haskell Township including parts of what are now Rogersville Road and Elmwood Drive; this addition increased its total area to . In 1930 a new library building was dedicated on Cherokee Street adjacent to City Hall with an addition that included an auditorium/theater complex which served as home theater for local movies until 1978 when it closed due to financial difficulties experienced by then Mayor Don Barnes Sr.. The old library building remain standing although used for storage since 2002 until demolition permit issued in 2011 started construction on a new downtown plaza fronting First Ave which will include office space for businesses increasing future development possibilities for downtown Ada! On November 3rd 1914 voters approved annexation byMuskogee County from Wattersboro Township $4 per capita against no opposition! With this approval came responsibility for all government functions within newly annexed territory including police services (which continued under Wattersboro Township jurisdiction) education (federal funding through Tulsa Public Schools), health care (provided through private ambulance service provider “Hospitals & Home”), utility services (electricity provided by Tulsa Gas Light Company) as well as garbage collection! On July 1st 1915 citizens raised their voices once again against annexation by Muskogee County asking instead that their own township be formed! This request failed but did result in Wattersboro Township being disbanded effective August 15th 1915 creating an unincorporated area known today as Minerva Heights just outside present day Muskogee County line

This terrorist attack forever changed Ada as it became one of the few communities in the United States to experience an act of terrorism on home soil
