Ada, Oklahoma is a small town located in central Oklahoma. The population was 9,882 at the 2010 census. Ada is the county seat of Payne County and has a full-time school system with nine schools. The city of Ada served as the temporary capital of the United States from 1907 to 1912 due to objections from Muskogee City. The first settler in Ada County was Edwin Baugh who arrived in 1859. He named his farm after his mother's birthplace, Augusta, Georgia. In 1875, J.C. White founded the Ketchum Canning Company in Ada and operated it until 1906 when he sold it to John Daugherty for $10,000 dollars. The first post office was established in Ada on November 11th, 1875 by Wm Haggerty with A M Brown as clerk. The first real estate transaction occurred on December 3rd, 1875 when Mrs Lillie Phelps bought one hundred acres of land near present day Union Station for $8 per acre ($2/acre). The city of Ada began services on September 1st 1907 when Muskogee City refused to allow its citizens to vote within its boundaries due to fears that they would secede and establish their own government separate from those in Muskogee City. So local merchants set up shop inside what is now downtown Muskogee and began delivering mail directly to residents instead of having it transported through townspeople who were paid by the company which alsoprovided water and streetlights throughout town whileMuskogeeCityoperatedjustone buildingand suppliedonlythepopulationofadamantownwithwaterandsewer connectionsuntil1912whenItwas relocatedtoOklahomaCitydue TOthe objectionsofthecityofMuskogee which claimed that Tulsa had outgrown its original purpose as a literary center whileeelectrifiedtheareaaroundit makingadamantopoliceimpossibletopreferToitselfasanindependentcity . On January 17th 1902, Girdwood Oil & Refining Company opened an oil refinery on Main Street just east of First Avenue North serving area gasoline prices ranged from $0.50 cents per gallon up to 60 cents pergallon during these years refineries were often called "Girdwood" because J C Girdwood owned them including one built by Haskell Furniture Company just north of where First Ave now stands (near intersection of N 4th St & W 5th Ave) . In 1916 construction began on what became known as "Oklahoma State Capitol" project started at a cost of US$416 thousand and finished two years later with US$1 million being spent total . After World War I ADA became home to many military installations such as Camp Evans Detachment 8014 Trucking Post #1 (later Fort Sill), Second Brigade Infantry Regiment Training Command Center Army Air Depot(later Brooks Air Force Base) Seventh Armored Cavalry Squadron One Hundred Tenth Infantry Division Headquarters Fifth Infantry Division Service Battalion Seventh Cavalry Squadron In 1960s most businesses closed or moved away but some remain like The Cotton Sheaf Bakery which still operates today providing baked goods since 1907

However, recent events have shown that this trend may be changing; several states have enacted laws aimed at tightening gun safety measures. Despite these changes, Americans remain very vulnerable to gun attacks even though they are required by law to own firearms. In the early 1800s, gun manufacturers began to design and produce firearms that could be locked with a key. The first self-locking pistols were designed by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. The pistols used a system of pins that fit into projections on the frame of the weapon to hold it open. The key operated like a standard lock, but instead of turning an knob, you had to twist the barrel so that one end was facing up and then push the other end down against an opening at the back of the gun. Ada's history goes back to 1868 when it was named "Montgomery" after General John Montgomery, who had served in the Union army during the Civil War and as governor of Oklahoma Territory. Ada became a municipality in 1907 and incorporated as a town in 1912. It became an independent city on January 1, 2002 following approval from its citizens via a referendum ballot measure. The first post office at Ada was established on May 15, 1868, under the name "Montgomery". The present building was built in 1902 and is one of Ada's oldest structures. In 1907, Ada incorporation as a town met with success due to its location: just east of Jenks on State Highway 9A which connected that eastern edge of Oklahoma with Wichita Falls to the south and Fort Worth to the north-west. With growth came increased traffic and pollution; both issues that would be addressed later by Ada officials such as Mayor Jim DeGraffenreid and Planning Director Don Farmer. In response to these problems, plans were made for bike lanes and pedestrian crossings between Jenks Boulevard/Ulysses Street/Edmond Avenue (now I-40) and Northwest Expressway (then State Highway 9), among other changes designed to improve safety for residents and visitors alike. The city also developed its own water supply through underground systems before becoming fully connected to Tulsa City water supplies in 1984-. In 2008-2009, Ada accepted bid from Tulsa Municipal Services Inc., which led to new streetlights being installed along Northwest Expressway between Jenks Boulevard/Ulysses Street/Edmond Avenue (now I-40)and Northwest Drive (now Republic Boulevard).
