Ada, Oklahoma is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. It was founded in 1907 and named for Ada Lovelace. The population was 8,718 at the 2010 census. The town is the county seat of Muskogee County. Ada is located at (36.545859, -96.675385). According to the 2010 Census, Ada has a total area of , of which (or 98%) is land and (or 2%) is water. The townsite of Ada was first settled by Choctaw people in 1875-76 as part of their treaty with the U.S., after they had been driven out of their traditional home around Fort Gibson by General Custer's army during the Indian Wars. As Choctaw territory diminished over time, settlers began arriving fromMuskogee County and other parts of Oklahoma Territory to establish farming villages near what would become Ada; these early settlers were led by Methodist Episcopal missionaries who arrived in 1907 from Kansas City. In 1916, when Muskogee County was established, it included much of present-day Ada Township but not all of present-day Muskogee County; accordingly, Ada became the county seat on July 1st 1912 pursuant to an act passed by the state legislature that same year; this Act also designated Haskell as the first judicial district judge for Muskogee County In 1934, when Tulsa became an independent city and its own county government was created within Muskegon County instead of sharing jurisdiction with Tulsa proper as it had done hitherto—an event which signaled a growing trend among American cities towards separate government control—Ada reverted back to being part of Tulsa proper as its previous incorporation date had expired uneventfully on December 31st 1931 without having been ratified by both bodies due to lack thereof support from most residents or political leaders in either city.—This decision effectively placed Ada squarely within downtown Tulsa between First National Bank and Philbrook Hospital where most businesses now sit despite some vestiges remaining such as portions of Sigma Chi fraternityhouse still standing today adjacent to Northwest High School across W Walnut Street from downtown’s old jail complex Gehrig Coliseum now occupies portions once occupied by Eastern State Penitentiary before its demolition following tornado damage in 1985—the large Retreat Hall behind First National Bank building Regency Ballroom currently houses most local Governmental functions including Courtsmart and Zoning hearing services along side various restaurant areas presently housing many small business owners/employees Tower block next door fronts Old Post Office building now anchors new light rail line extension just east off I-240 EB inside former Southern Pacific Depot lot next door Geebrycenter mall complex anchored recently by Sears store occupies former Masonic Temple lot across E Harrison Street formerly known as Farmers Market
