Zanesville, Ohio is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lucas County. Zanesville was founded by George Washington Zane in 1814 and incorporated as a city in 1836. The current mayor is Cuyahoga Valley National Park Deputy Director Dan Gilbert. The area now known as Zanesville was first inhabited by the Shawnee people who lived there for several hundred years before being forcibly removed in 1763 by General James Wilkinson during his invasion of that region. In 1814, George Washington Zane founded what would become Zanesville after purchasing land from the Shawnee chiefs east of present-day Cleveland. That year, he also erected the first log cabin in what would eventually be called Zanesville Township. At that time, it was part of Holmes County and consisted of only 12 miles (19 km) of open prairie stretching to the Scioto River at its eastern edge. By 1830, however, the township had grown to encompass some 40 square miles (100 km2). In 1840, following another forced removal campaign led by Wilkinson’s successor Henry Dearborn and aided by William Makepeace Thacher—the first U.S. senator from Ohio—the area now comprising present-day Lucas County became part of Indiana Territory when that state was organized on March 4, 1825; Indian Removal Act did not take effect until September 16th that year The successful settlement of this new territory allowed for steady growth throughout much of early 19th century America; with mills opening up around here starting with David Whitaker’s grist mill on Sweetwater Creek in 1826 and continuing through to those built by Prentice Mulford (1829–1892), John Dennison (1830–1900), Elijah Kelley (1850–1901), Hiram Sibley (1854–1927)—all operators prominent within their respective industries—and others over time including: Wm Harkins & Bros., Fayette Furniture Co., Jardine & Eisenstadt Paper Mill #1(renamed “Belmont Paper Mills” 1907), Galesburg Brewing Company #1(renamed “Galesburg Brewing Company No 1” 1910), First National Bank #2(renamed “First National Bank No 2” 1912) In addition to its burgeoning economic activity and resultant social stability which helped make early 20th century Zanesvillians known for their generosity and support for civic organizations such as political parties representational voting patterns were highly consistent across generations including among men born between 1800-1860 living longest into adulthood; these exceptions are found primarily among men younger than 60 years old who experienced significant changes or no change at all during this periodExceptionally notable were variations seen among male deaths aged 25-34 years old followed closely by males aged 35-44 years olds then later still men 45+ years old whose death rates trended more slowly than those under age 25 Within each category there existed relatively stable patterns regardless of stage or type/cause o f death Although life expectancy increased significantly due largely to increased industrial production throughout late 19th century along with corresponding improvements in medical care advanced diagnosis technology played an important role both during embolization treatments leading up to World War I while also playing key role during subsequent wars through contributions made even beyond American borders including Great Britain . Zanesville is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It was founded by George Zanes and named for him. The first post office in Zanesville opened in 1802. In 1836, the town was platted and named for James K. Zane, who had been killed during the Mexican-American War. The city was incorporated on March 15, 1881, from portions of unincorporated Muskingum Township. The original name of the city came from nearby Willowick which had been renamed by General David Dixon after Commodore John Cushing's victory over Mexico at Torreón on July 8,1847 (the Battle of Palo Alto). In 1902, when ownership of the Toledo & Erie Railroad passed through Zanesville it became part of the Cleveland Division of that railroad's network as part of its mergers with other companies in order to create a system having more than 500 routes throughout North America. At this time also Telephone company began service to homes statewide including Zanesville with their new callsign "Zenesville Telephones". On October 17th 1912 Telephone Company merged with Ohio Bell Telephone Company forming Three Valley Telephone Corporation which still operates today as one division within Verizon Communications Inc., headquartered in Overland Park KS
