Zanesville, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that was founded in 1811 by John Zanes and his family. The population was 27,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–zombies area. The first settler in what is now Zanesville was John Zanes who arrived there in 1811 with his family from County Cork, Ireland. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Monongahela River and named it Harmony which he later sold to Nicholas Boynton for $200USD in 1819. In 1830, Isaac Dent bought Harmony from Boynton and renamed it Unity. In 1840, James Prentice bought Unity from Prentice Brothers and renamed it Zaneville after him. In 1865, Jesse Phelps acquired land north of Unity which he built into a farm called Phelps' Corners where he lived until his death in 1915. The farm became part of Zaneville Township when it was organized in 1896. In 1916, Norris Wagon Wheel began manufacturing carriages here and continued until its closure in 1954; this made Zaneville one of the last towns west of Cincinnati to enter into commercial agriculture during that time period . Many local businesses still operate today such as Ladd's Pantry (a grocery store), Mother Nature's Mercantile (an outdoor clothing store), antique mall (the only one remaining open since 1978), and First United Methodist Church (founded 1870). In addition to these local businesses, there are several restaurants/cafes located around town including White Castle Pizza & Donuts (opened 1984), Papa John's Pizza ($) (), Jimmy Johns ($) (), and Chick-fil-A ($) (). Additionally, within walking distance are two movie theaters: Regal Cinemas () on Franklin Street between Main Street and US Route 422nd Avenue - features 3D screenings - adjacent to First United Methodist Church - features 4D screenings; while AMC Theatres () on Elmwood Road between State Route 45th Avenue South Dakota Boulevard and State Highway 2nd Avenue offers classic westerns as well as 3D screenings for an additional fee . There also used to be an amusement park called American Legion Park which closed down in 2002 following years of neglect by parent company Geauga Lake Broadcasting Company Incorporated (). Zanesville, Ohio, is a town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 22,521 at the 2010 census. Zanesville is part of the Akron-Canton-Muncie metropolitan area. Stephenson also built a branch line into what is now Youngstown that connected with this railroad atpresent day North Side Road near Bellefontaine Mall. This helped spark heavy development around here beginning with taverns such as The Horseshoe Tavern (later called The Gilded Cage), which had two floors of gaming rooms, a ballroom/dance salon, four cellar cells for horse racing purposes and other important features common among early 19th century American settlements Zanesville became an incorporated village on November 8, 1837 when it passed an act authorizing incorporation by vote of its citizens." The first post office opened in 1840 under the name Northside but changed to Southside soon after because of competition from nearby Youngstown In 1845 Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 5 square miles (12 km²) east of present-day ZanesVILLE from John Nicholson for $2 million dollars making this one of America's largest single land acquisitions evermade . Forrest began developing this property into one of America's most productive cotton plantations However controversy surrounded Forrest's ownership including accusations that he profited from slave labor while running these plantations - charges he vehemently denied
