Zanesville, Ohio is a city in northwestern Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 27,835 at the 2010 census. In 1830, John Ransom built an iron furnace on his farm near present-day downtown Zanesville for Local No. 1 blast furnaces then being developed throughout central Ohio by Nicholas Gossett & Company (later General Electric). The furnace became one of Zanesville's most famed landmarks and helped spur economic development around it during its early years. After World War II, local production shifted away from steel to aluminum and other materials due to excess capacity at Gossett's factory; however, remnants of Local No. 1 still remain today as part of Downtown Park District tour stops along High Street between First National Bank building and Clinton Library buildings across from Joe Gibbs Arena – home arena for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Columbus Blue Jackets hockey teams since 1993–2001 – as well as several small shops/restaurants located inside Downtown Park District tours stop locations below Market Street level adjacent Clinton Library buildings across from Joe Gibbs Arena.)
