The original town site lay within what is now Carroll Township. In 1837, it became a village when all ofLucas County was created. In 1840, it became an incorporated town when all ofLake County was created. On November 3, 1914 it changed its name to Zanesville after Milton Swayne who served as mayor from 1886 until his death in 1912. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and (0.5%) is water. As of 2010 there were 34,441 people living in Zanesville limits; 18% white (non-Hispanic), 82% Hispanic or Latino (of any race), 5% black or African American (non-Hispanic), 8% Asian/Pacific IslanderAmerican (non-Hispanic), 2% Native American/Alaskan Native Hawaiian/Aleutian Islanderand 1% two or more races combined). As reported by U.S Census Bureau demographic reports for 2000 through 2010: Asians make up 2%, Native Americans make up 8%, Hispanics make up 82%, whites make up 34%. Of Asians living here they are almost all recent immigrants who arrived since 1990: according as latest UNAIDS estimates both China and India have experienced rapid growth rates over this time period so their numbers have swollen dramatically even though they still form only 2%.2

Zanesville, Ohio is a small town located in central Ohio. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest of the six cities in Lucas County. It has been home to a number of famous people and events over its history- including General Ulysses S. Grant and James K. Polk- as well as many smaller events that have helped shaped Zanesville’s cultural landscape. The first known settlement in what is now Zanesville was made by Asahel Zane on December 12, 1795 while he was serving as an officer in the British Army during the French and Indian War. In 1801, John J. Faust purchased 6 acres of land east of the village square for $100 dollars cash from Asahel Zane. The area that became today’s downtown wasReservoir Road until 1957 when it was renamed Main Street after Zane’s widow, Jane Faust Zane- who had also donated land for development. In 1815, George Stephenson founded the Western Railroad Company with help from banker Nicholas Stillman and others within government circles to build a railroad between Cincinnati and Cleveland which would allow goods to be shipped directly from Liverpool instead of being transported through New England via sea or canoe then carted around to various ports along the way. With this new transportation model came increased productivity throughout America which led to more jobs available for those who could find them- not just in manufacturing but also service industries like farming and commerce too. By 1830, Stephenson had built four lines totaling 257 miles (400 km) with one line reaching Cleveland! During this time period there were other settlements established throughout central Ohio such as Xenia on Lake Erie where John Fenton settled in 1821; Miamisburg on Highbank Hill near Dayton where Simon Gillett settled in 1825; Lancaster on Great Miami River where David Humphreys settled in 1830; Peru on Delaware River near Wooster where Elijah Hicks settled in 1840; and Defiance Springs on Clear Fork tributary of Maumee River near Painesville where Daniel Boone set up his cabin circa 1775 AD! Each community began to grow due largely to their location within easy access of major urban areas like Cincinnati or Cleveland – all without havingto leave their homes! This growth helped create an overall sense of community among these early settlers which would continue into later decades! Due largely to railroad construction work taking place within town limits beginning around 1870–such as widening Main Street between Third Street and Fourth Street so traffic could move easily across city boundaries–the once remote villages along Clear Fork Creek started becoming popular destinations for residents seeking rural escape! These villages included Xenia (1871), Miamisburg (1872), Lancaster (1874), Defiance Springs (1876), Painesville (1880), Lebanon (1881)and Wooster (1902!). Today only Xenia remains standing while Miamisburg has been demolished and replaced by a shopping center while Lancaster has become part of Lima Township.. On October 15th 1888 Union Pacific Railway employees set out flowers at Town Market Square Park after starting supper early that evening following dayslong strike against management over wages
Zanesville was founded in 1788 by James Zane and his wife, Susanna. The first post office in the town was established in 1800. Zanesville was incorporated as a village in 1868. In 1915, the name of the town was changed to Dayton after Ohio's capital city, Columbus. It reverted to Zanesville on October 15, 1966.
