On October 8, 1807, by vote of the township trustees this proposal was approved and a charter was granted to form "The village of Zanesville". On November 3rd same year General Wilkinson arrived in person at the new town site to dedicate it to commerce and military purposes; but before his departure some difficulties arose about appointing authorities for its government according to his proposals; this led him finally to abandon our settlement until after its organization into a political unit under one governor - an event which occurred on December 15th 1808 by Order of Governor Trumbull." On March 4th 1830 Isaac Aspinwall bought 400 acres (16 hectares) alongpresent day Wabash Avenue from Colonel Edward Denny for $1 per acre ($10 per hectare). Zanesville, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,636 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five cities in Stark County and part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Zanesville" comes from an early settler's claim that a large water droplet on a tree near his farm spelled "Zane." The first permanent settler in what would become Zanesville was James Witherspoon, who arrived around 1819. By 1830, there were 10 families living in Zanesville. In 1835, John Gorman built the first frame house in what would become Zanesville. From this point until 1850s most of the growth and development in Zanesville came from its two churches: First Presbyterian and Methodist Church both founded in 1835. In 1851–1855 three new towns were established within Stark County as a result of western land grants to railroads: North Union (later Noble), Freemont, and South Union (later Mentor). With these towns formed there began to be an increase population density which led to challenges for town planners when it came to developing infrastructure such as roads and sewers necessary for growing populations. This lack of infrastructure made it difficult for small villages like ZanesVILLE to compete with larger communities and resulted in some streets being named after railroad companies or other businesses rather than individual citizens or local landmarks. Despite these challenges, during this time period Zanesville experienced significant growth with six churches opening up between 1851-1855 along with over 150 homes being built including several brick buildings which still stand today including First Presbyterian Church (now known as Wright-Patterson Museum) on Fourth Street NW and Methodist Episcopal church located onpresent day Broad Street NE cornering High Street NW

It was founded in 1814 by Captain James Kincaid and his family as a trading post on the Great Miami River. The town grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s due to its location on the edge of an agricultural region that supported several thousand people. In 1851, Zanesville became one of the first cities in Ohio to be incorporated as a result of statehood movements. The city was originally built along three main streets: Third Street east-west, High Street north-south, and State Route 47 south-north. As commercial activity expanded into what had been farmland near the river, developers began to build housing developments throughout downtown Zanesville in response to growing demand for space. One such development was The Parsonage which consisted of forty two buildings on eight acres ( thirty six m² ). After years of planning and construction, The Parsonage opened its doors in October 1907 and quickly became known as one of Ohio's most successful shopping centers. During World War II Zanesville experienced heavy bombing raids from American bombers over Germany; many homes were destroyed or damaged but noone was killed or injured inside City Hall which still stands today as a reminder of that time period In 1949, when Ohio became a state based off of the former federal territoryof Indiana it merged with much larger neighboring state Toledo into one large entity called "Ohio". This merger left Zanesville with just seventeen residents living within its borders making it one of fifteen villages located within "Ohio". Many residents relocated to larger towns or cities after this experience but some continue to live in their original village until today
