In 1849 William Ladd began construction on what would become known as "the Ladd House" - now home to the National Museum of American History - and within weeks had added two more stories onto what would soon become known as "the Town Hall". Both structures were completed without any funds raised from local residents or subscription drives through mail order or even door-to-door canvassing however Ladd did manage to secure some financial assistance from railroads running through Xenia during this time which resulted in increased traffic around town for goods brought back into America via those rails! This growing commerical activity eventually led to new buildings also being erected along Third Street north east of Main Street including what is now called "Old City Hall" dating back to 1897 when it served as both the courthouse for Xenian Municipal Court (now Lucas County Common Pleas Court) and also served as jail until 1903 when that building was destroyed by fire!
