XENIA - Xenia's story began with one man and his wagon. In 1814, Nicholas Xenon set out from Xenia on an adventure that would change the course of history. Xenon was looking for a new home to call his own and found it in what is now Medina County. He settled on a small farming community called Greenlawn which he named after himself and his wife, xena (Greek: Μέναια). Xenia quickly became known for its excellent farmland, fertile soil, and delicious apples that were exported to all over the Union during its early years. By 1836, xenia had more than 10 Methodist ministers living here with their families. This faith based community soon became known as "the mother church" of Medina County because many of its members were also buried there in unmarked graves until 1901 when they were finally laid to rest in large earthen tombs near the original settlement site. In 1865, when Ohio attained statehood, xenia was given municipal status by the state government under the name of Xenia Township along with other townships within Medina County including Akron and Canton. However xenia never achieved much success due to its location remote from most activity within county limits and lack of infrastructure such as roads or schools which made it difficult for residents to get around without assistance from others in their township or outside of it altogether . The situation changed after World War II when many people came throughxenIA seeking work opportunities post-war America had become very competitive . With so many people moving into xenia during this time period there was an increased demand for goods and services available at local stores however few people could follow through with these plans because transportation wasn't readily available or affordable enough to commute into xenialand everyday life felt outof reach . This combination of factors led to low property values throughout most parts of xenialand contributing greatly towards economic decline over the next several decades while overall tax rates remained relatively high due to limited funds available for needed programs ..In recent years there has been some revitalization efforts underway thanks mostly to grants awarded by area municipalities as well as private donations but it remains far from complete
Xenia was founded in 1820 by James Armstrong and his family. It was the first post office in Xenia Township. The town grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s, thanks to its location on the Scioto River, which allowed it to be a major center for trade and commerce. In 1846, Xenia became a county seat of Xenia County. During its time as a county seat, Xenia also saw some significant growth in population, with additional buildings being erected throughout the years including a courthouse and jail. In 1916, Xenia became an incorporated city.
