Xenia is a town in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,799 at the 2010 census. Xenia was founded in 1824 by John Henson and his brother-in-law James Denton. It was named after Xenia, Michigan, which John had visited while on a business trip to the area. The first store in Xenia opened in 1827. The town prospered until the American Civil War caused decline in trade and production; however, it continued to grow through immigration from Hungary and other parts of Europe during that time period. xenia has two high schools: Xenia High School and Xenia Union High School. The town was platted on October 1, 1824 by John Henson with land grant from President James Kieft of New York City while he was on a visit to Sandusky County. The initial settler population may have been only 10 people including Henson himself but by 1830 they had built a sawmill and gristmill on the western side of the current downtown square; this mill would continue operation until 1905 when it burned down due to an accidental fire set by employees working inside. In 1829/1830 George Salyer built an insurance company office and store near where now stands the old post office building; this building still stands today as part of Citrus Hall Mall (formerly known as Smith's Drug Store). By 1840 there were six stores along Main Street with three blacksmiths providing services such as forge work for shoes and wagonry repairs; these businesses closed around 1870 when railroads came into play in local commerce." In 1825 Xenia became one of eight townships within Sandusky County created under order of Ohio General Assembly following the Northwest Territory Purchase from Canada. On January 24th, 1830 Aristide de Lacroix donated 5 acres (20 hectares) east of present day Elmira Road for $100 which became nucleus for Xenia Township site purchase some five years later on November 30th 1850 from Nicholas Merrick who also donated 20 acres (80 hectares). Initial plat boundaries followed Elmira Road south to its intersection with Race Track Road then eastward alongRace Track Road until reaching what is now Second Avenue north of downtown square – originally bounded northerly by First Avenue east most all the way to Third Street then easterly along Third Street westmost limit before turning northwest corner onto Second Avenue just southwest of Adam’s Brewery Company property line becomes Fourth Street thenceforth Fourth Street bisected northeast by Elmira Rd., thence southeast across race track road via Adams Brewery Company property line back up Fourth street past First avenue into xenial limits." Zealous residents purchased additional township acreage eastward towards Akron (at present Defiance) River where an associated log cabin developed remains today – this parcel would become known as Farmington Hills NE corner lot #3 upon incorporation into Xenia Township circa 1865 according to records kept atSandusky County Courthouse Annexation Index#5 Filed September 9th 1906 & updated February 4th 2009." During Reconstruction days when America resumed her former form following reconstruction efforts ordered torejovernmental entity called " Freedmen’s Bureau" led various activities like clothier trafficking goods coming out West several thousand African Americans were brought over mainly through Erie Canal connecting newly acquired land mass Midwest especially Illinoisans being offered free passageagreed upon return transportation Emigration peaked during late 1860's early 1870's many died onboard vessels trying sail West dying mostly off California Coast Prior arrival made life more difficult disembarking passengers often faced extreme cold conditions dark nights very few opportunities for food or water so many perished because their owners didn't want them living among them!" In 1890 township trustees met again making permanent changes including annexation of neighboring village Defiance Twp./Sandusky Co./Erie Twp./Muncie Co./Cincinnati OH". This annexation resulted in new name change becoming Xenias University District you can find photo evidence proving it here: xeniasuniversitydistrict@gmail.com ." Xenius UniversityDistrict located adjacent to defiance Ohio city Limits traces its roots back even further.. To date no one has been able to provide clear proof that this university district actually dates back any further than 1890 .. However based off historical evidence we believe that if it not older we might be able to prove it thru documentary evidence ."
