Xenia is a city in and the county seat of Xenia County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,904 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Frankfort–Wilmington, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Xenia was founded in 1836 by James S. Dickey as an agricultural community on what are now the University Heights neighborhoods of Xenia and Fairview streets. The original name for Xenia was "Dickey's Ferry". In 1845, the community became a town when it incorporated as a village with a Polish-American majority. On July 1, 1907, Xenia became an independent city under the provisions of the Ohio Territory Municipal Act No. 104 (25 USC § 711). The first post office in Xenia opened in 1840 and continued operating until it was discontinued in 1846 due to lack of mail service from Dayton to Xenia. The second post office in Xenia opened on November 15, 1840 and continued operating until it was discontinued on November 16th due to low mail traffic from Dayton to Xenia In 1847 James S., Dickey donated land east of Fairview Street for a courthouse which would serve both cities together. Construction began on this facility in 1850 but only reached its full height during reconstruction following Typhoon Andrew that year On October 27th 1861 David Himmelstein donated land southwest of Fairview Street forMALCOLM HARRISON High School The cornerstone for this school building were laid by Mayor John Pritchard on December 12th 1861 housing classes started there on January 6th 1862 followed by varsity football play beginning on February 2nd With these new schools construction picked up significantly with brick buildings being erected along Fairview Street throughout 1863 through 1865 while also Ladies Academy Building constructed northeast corner of High School Road between Fairfax Avenue and Princeton Avenue completed before Classes resumed at Malcom Harrison HS September 9th 1865 After much debate over location within the limits set forth by Congress with Secretary Seward determining thatFairview & Spring Streets should be Limits while other Roads should be Allowed further Expansion proceeded without any more brick Buildings being erected & all Students attending Malcom Harrison HS September 9th 1865 went into their Class Rooms located vacated prior To reopening August 22nd 1870 As A result Of Which Town Hall which stands today marked By A Brick Mural From Front To Back Incorporating A Map Of America

ThisLock was later improved upon by John Brownell and his company Bendix & Co., who developed a version known as The Brownell Lock (named after them). Xenia is a town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. Xenia was platted in 1805 by Nicholas Xenophon and named for his tavern, the Xenia Tavern. The first post office in Xenia was established in 1814. The town became a part of the Union while Ohio seceded from the United States on November 8, 1861. It officially re-joined the United States on January 1, 1870. Xenia is governed by a Township Committee form of government with three members elected to serve four-year terms; one member is always appointed by the Mayor and two are elected at large. Xenia's history can be traced back to its earliest days as an agricultural settlement near what is nowDAYTONA BEACH, Florida Territory (now Miami-Dade County). In 1805 Nicholas Xenophon founded what would become known as Xenia with land he had acquired from Native American citizens who had been forcibly removed from their homes during the Shawnee War of 1813-1814. He erected a tavern called "The Xenia" on Main Street which he operated until his death in 1828. Xenia, Ohio was founded in 1836 by George W. Wright and his wife Xenia. The Wrights were the first white people to settle in what is now Xenia Township. They built a log cabin on the current site of the town and started a small farm. In 1837, they had their first child, John, and soon after started trading goods with neighboring towns for food and materials needed to build their new home. In 1840, they moved out of the original log cabin into a more permanent structure which served as the town's first schoolhouse and post office. In 1847, they had their second child, Mary Jane. By 1850, Xenia had become a village with a population of 20 residents. That year, it was renamed Xenia Township after its founder's daughter. The township also saw growth in railroad transportation during the late 1800s and early 1900s; by 1902 it had 10 businesses including one bank and four grocery stores. The population reached 100 residents by 1912 but dropped to 80 by 1922 due to economic factors such as World War I and Prohibition efforts that killed off many local businesses."
