It is safe to say that the history of firearms in Xenia, Ohio began with shotguns. In 1875, J.D. Harrington and 8 others founded the Western Gun Emporium, which became the first firearm dealership in Xenia. The following year, they sold their business to George W. Smith and began selling rifles and pistols under the name Smith & Wesson Firearms Company.Over time, however, Smith & Wesson Firearms Company changed its name to Springfield Armory Inc., and continued sales of firearms until it was purchased by Colt Manufacturing Corporation in 1964. At Colt Manufacturing Corporation, Springfield Armory Inc., along with other gun manufacturing businesses across America, produced such iconic brands as the Ruger Mini-14 Rifle and revolver model 9mm pistol. However, it was not until 1998 that a new Springfield Armory facility was opened in Xenia – this time specifically for the manufacture of ammunition products for firearms use. This has resulted in increased production capacity for both our Ammunition Division and our Firearms Division – ensuring that we remain at the forefront of firearm technology around the world!

Xenia, Ohio is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,317 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Xenia was founded in 1818 by settlers from what is now Erie County, Pennsylvania. In 1824, it became the county seat of Mahoning County and has remained so since. The first store in Xenia was built on Main Street by James Aitken and Jacob Ziegler in 1824. In 1829, Xenia incorporated as a village and had its own school board until 1840 when it merged with the Mahoning County School Districts. The first post office opened in Xenia on March 25, 1830; Fentonville did not open until May 6th that year due to construction delays caused by snowmelt on their road from Westmoreland to Xenia The land for present-day Xenia was donated by John Daugherty to the town of Xenia in 1848 following his purchase of 400 acres east of town from Nicholas Vailes (later spelled Veaux). Daugherty donated most of his land to avoid any conflict with fellow farmers who had recently bought similar tracts near where he lived on the western edge of town. Daugherty's donation included a tract that runs north-south along Elmira Road just south of Main Street and an addition extending westward along Water Street which forms today's downtown district. He also gifted another tract including what is now Market Squarewest which extended northeast into what is now Delaware Avenue/Manchester Road before turning southeast towards Euclid Avenue/Highway 7northwest into today's Anson Heights neighborhood Builders recruited among early residents were James Kelley (a carpenter), Solomon Webb (a blacksmith), David Myers (an attorney) and Ebenezer Cook (a builder). Home builders encountered many difficulties during this time period due to lack of availability & money - such as Poor Richard's Store located between Fourth and Fifth Streets been cited as one example – but progress continued nonetheless with subsequent stores being built at Third and State streets before finally reaching Broad Ripple Boulevard near Hawkins & Highland Avenues in 1897 becoming one block long!
