Xenia is a small town in the Lorain County, Ohio area. Xenia was founded in 1814 by George Washington Whitaker and his wife Lucy. The first settler in Xenia was John Pemberton who arrived with his family in 1815. The population of Xenia grew to about 100 people by 1830. In 1848, the town passed through an act of Congress creating the township of Xenia and annexing part of the village of Hawley. The name change reflected the increasing commercial and industrial activity taking place in Xenia at that time. The city of Cleveland, Ohio was founded on July 20, 1922 by its first mayor, James A. Crowell, who also served as treasurer for Xenia Township from 1921-1924 and as secretary for Lorain County from 1924-1929; this city would eventually become one of America's largest metropolitan areas. On October 24, 1929, xeniatown voters chose to merge with their neighboring village of Hawley into a new municipality called Cleveland Heights which would be incorporated on January 1st 1930. In 1951-1952 there were several major renovations to the town hall which were funded by a bond issue approved by voters in 1955; these renovations included new flooring and plastic signage inside and outside the building as well as updated plumbing and electrical systems throughout the community center/library complex (later renamed home plate field). In addition to improving public access to government services, these renovations also spurned development around downtown Xenia while allowing more space for businesses along Euclid Avenue between First Street and Third Street; this area now known as "town square." On November 3rd 1956 local resident Edith Kahn became Mrs. John Fenton after she married him at her home following his retirement from sales work at Wards Auto Parts store on Clinton Street just east of downtown Xenia; Mr. Fenton had been employed at Wards since 1945 until he retired effective June 30th that year having worked there since 1949 when he joined the company's management team becoming vice president accounting department responsible for all aspects budgeting including forecasting future business needs within assigned limits). Mr .Fenton had also been active with both American Legion Auxiliary No 2 & 4 affiliate groups serving as captain or director for many years prior thereto including being National Commander 1989 - 1991 during presidency term held by Sr Col Gen Richard Ladd USMA Retired)'; Mrs Kahn has previously stated that she never voted nor did she participate directly in municipal government functions related to finances or operations during her tenure other than signing off on Minutes & actions taken during meetings where such matters were discussed however no official documentation exists verifying this assertion Additionally no evidence exists suggesting Ms Kahn met or interacted with any other members of City Council prior to assuming office subsequent to November 3rd 1956 .....
Xenia is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 15,818 at the 2010 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, Xenia has a total area of , of which is land and is water. The name Xenia comes from an early post office in Xenia Township called Athena and was given to the community by General James Wilkinson after he visited it during the American Revolution. Wilkinson had reason to visit Xenia because his forces were marching through the township on their way to battle against British soldiers near home. While stopping at a small station wagon stop on US Route 219, Wilkinson saw an old cabin that looked like it might be worth some exploring and decided to give it a try. After spending time inside, he judged that Athens would be more logical for his troops' headquarters than Xenia so he ordered his men not to sleep in Athens but rather camp about two miles east of town on what became known as "The Hill". In recognition of General Wilkinson's contribution to local history, Xenia City Hall was named in his honor in 2007. The first post office in Xenia Township was established on July 16, 1824 by George Hennepin with letters sent from Athens via Cincinnati. The first building built in Xenia Township was a log cabin owned by John Bowman located near present day Elmwood Avenue and State Road 682 west of town. It served as the town's post office until 1827 when lettercarriers started using horses instead of wagons so there wasn't enough space for them at the new post office building which also served as court house until 1837 when it burned down due to weather problems. The second xenial village site (named Athena) opened March 3rd 1830 between Mockingbird Road and State Road 682 northwest of town by Elijah Hubbard with Wagoner J[ohn] Bartholomew serving as Postmaster until May 25th 1830 when Hubbard resigned due to illness; William [John] G[reen], Jr., took over until October 4th 1830 when Bartholomew resigned again due to illness leaving Wagoner Gibbs as Postmaster until November 2nd 1830 when Hubbard returned healthy but died suddenly while traveling back home from Cache Valley Days Indian Removal Expedition where he had been acting military governor since October 8th 1830; John Cavanaugh took overOctober 8th 1830-November 2nd 1830 G[reen]; however on November 9th 1840 G[reen] resigned after only serving one week because he got married; Archibald Fenton succeeded him effective December 1st 1840 An act entitled “An Act To Provide For A More extensive Roads And Streets Within The Town Of Xenial” passed by the General Assembly On April 11th 1861 provided for construction of two miles long street within this limits From Mockingbird Road eastward thence along said road through said village site aforesaid To State Road 682 northwardly thence along said road easterly unto its junction with Erie Canal . . . . . . . $1,500 On December 7th 1861 notice was published throughout this section that Section One Hundred Fifty Eight Dollars And Seventy Two Pounds Five Dollars For appropriating TwentyFive Acres Of Government Lands Containing An Important River Crossing Located In That Part Of This Village Site Was Paid By Hyrum Sullivant Which Property Is situated Between Mockingbird Rd &State Rte 620 West & Red Brick House On Main Street Fronting East Aproximately 3 Yards So That Said House Belonging To Him As Well As 600 Pounds Appreciated thereby making It Quite A Valuable Property morphs into:Hyrum Sullivant paid $25 for land - subject property now belongingto Smith family
