In 1920 it reached its peak with 11 stores and 1612 residents; however, this level declined during World War II due to wartime restrictions on trade within Trumbull County (the Dayton-Middletown metropolitan area). Worthington has since experienced significant growth throughout its history – reaching its current size in 2000. Recently, the town has made strides towards becoming an environmentally sustainable community by transitioning to a green building program which now includes all new buildings constructed or renovated through 2018 without using any single energy source other than natural sunlight or wind power
