Worthington is a town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,620 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in what is now Worthington were French colonists who arrived in 1788 and named it after the town of Vendôme, France. Worthington was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Worthington. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1819, the township was organized into a village and the name was changed to Worthington Heights. In 1839, the village merged with the Township to form Worthington Township. On May 9, 1868, Worthington Township dissolved and its assets were divided between Columbus Township (now Scioto County) and Worthington Heights Township (now Ohio County).
