Worthington is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland– Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General James Worthington, who fought in the American Revolutionary War and later served as governor of Ohio. The first settler in Worthington was John Cutshall, who built a cabin on the edge of what is now Worthington Township on Long Island Sound in 1792. Cutshall's son-in-law, Jacob Franks (1751–1827), also founded a small town about two miles to the east of where Worthington now stands near modern day Parkersburg. Worthington had its own post office from 1814 until it was discontinued in 1872. In 1837, three brothers - Jonathan Ewing (1793–1868), Ebenezer Whetstone (1802–75) and Solomon Whetstone (1800–65) - erected a log cabin on high ground between present-day Main Street and West Side Road where they renamed their new settlement "Worthington." The first postmaster, Ebenezer Whetstone, reported that mail arrived regularly from Cincinnati and other parts of eastern Ohio until 1840 when service ended because of financial difficulties caused by war expenditures. In 1850, Daniel Webster bought land at the junction of East Side Road and West Side Road which he used as his farmstead before becoming an entrepreneur with interests including lumbering and coalmining operations in nearby Uniontown. In 1861 Webster sold his interest in these businesses to Lewis Cass; this sale became one of the most momentous transactions in local history because it created what would become known as the "Three Sisters" mining region – Buffalo Creek Mine(s), Uniontown Mines(s)and Ulysses Knopper's Copper mines – all within200 miles (322 km) of Cleveland proper. From this point forward there were regular shipments of copper ore from those mines direct to Cleveland via Erie Canal boatloads for processing into coins or ingots before shipment onward to Pittsburgh for storage or export

Worthington is a town in Richland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1824 and named for General Nathaniel Worthington, who had been appointed by President James K. Polk to lead military forces against Native Americans in the Sandusky Bay Campaign of 1825. Worthington was originally a small farming community with only 10 residents when it became an incorporated village in 1901. In 2002, Worthington annexed the neighboring communities of Delaware and Indianola. The first settler in Worthington was James Auld, who arrived on horseback on March 24, 1824. He built a log cabin near present-day Scioto Avenue and Euclid Street. Auld's wife Mary served as the first female ordained minister of Christianity in Ohio (1830). Another early settler, John McClure, brought his family to the area aroundpresent-day Scioto Avenue and Euclid Street about two years later from Kentucky. McClure built a series of log cabins along what are now known as McClure Drive and Galbraith Road until he bought land at what is now State Route 621 east of present-day Northside Drive for $1 per acre (about $ today). In 1830, he also erected a large stone house on what is now State Route 621 that served as the village hall until 1902 when it burned down during a storm; this event is still commemorated by a plaque located at nearby Northside Drive where McClure House once stood In 1831–32 George Washington Wetzel farmed 400 acres (16 hectares) northeast of present-day Worthington Center alongositepresent-dayStateRoute621andcame into contact with Native American leaders led by Chief Whetstone through friendly trade negotiations which eventually led to war between tribes known as Cherokee Indians and their British allies over control of land south of Muskingum River When General Nathaniel Worthington arrived at Fort Wayne on June 1, 1825 to lead Ulysses S Grant's army against Native Americans in Sandusky Bay Campaign he called upon local farmers to provide troops for his campaign including James Auld who replied "If I can help I will." The campaign resulted in more than 100 deaths among both indigenous warriors and white soldiers before victory finally came weeks later on November 14th when General Worthington's force drove out all but 10 native survivors from sandusky bay using artillery fire after months siege Aldo Leopold & Brothers opened up one hundred miles northwest Toledo somewhere near present day Georgetown OH with flour from New England Prior to this there were no other mills open up north so companies began coming here & buying our own land continuing until 1893 when water rights were given away within city limits
