Worthington, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The population was 20,765 as of the 2010 census. It is part of Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlement in what is now Worthington dates back to 1690 when Nicholas Putnam founded the town on his land east of the Muskingum River. In 1796, Simon Legault established a post office at what is now downtown Worthington after purchasing land from David Starr Jordan for $2 per acre (based on current prices). The first store was opened in 1801 by Solomon Eaton and became one of the most successful mercantile enterprises in central Ohio until its closure in 1868. In 1863, George Stephenson built a railroad line through Worthington and it became an important transportation center for eastern Cleveland and southern Stark County until it was destroyed by a fire in 1906. In 1907, Orville Wright flew his Wilbur Wright Airplane over Akron while landing at Municipal Airport; this event helped increase public awareness about aviation and support for development of nearby Akron-Canton Airport later that year. By 1926, Worthington had become home to two large factories: Armour Aircraft Corporation's Willow Run Plant located near downtown and J Swythe Electric Corporation's new Western Works facility which employed thousands of people during its heyday before closing down in 2002 due to downsizing within corporate America. The old Willow Run plant still remains standing as part of IKEA's headquarters complex inside their retail building on Superior Avenue across from Lake Erie Park

Worthington is a city in the Miami Valley region of Ohio, United States. The population was 17,828 at the 2010 census. The city is named after General John Worthington, an American general who fought in the Revolutionary War. Worthington was founded on July 4, 1824 by farmers and mechanics from Delaware County. It became a town on November 3, 1829. From its incorporation as a town to its current form as a city, Worthington has experienced several waves of growth and change. The first wave of growth came during the early 1800s when Worthington saw an increase in business activity due to its location at the intersection of two main roadways. This saw an influx of people and new businesses into the town which helped it grow rapidly throughout the 1800s. In 1824, Worthington became home to its first permanent schoolhouse which helped spur development within the community for future generations. Additionally, this period also sees an increase in population as families moved into the area looking for easier access to education and work opportunities. The second major wave of growth began around 1910 when war veterans returned from World War I and started settling in what is now Worthington. This led to an increased demand for real estate within the town which caused it to boom even more quickly during this time frame. During this time period, Worthington also saw another influx of people thanks to industrialization which led to new jobs being created withinthe community as well as population growth throughout central Ohio1 Throughout these waves of growth and change, there have been several important landmarks or accomplishments that have contributed significantly towards Worcester Township’s identity today2 These include: The opening of Central High School (now known as Clark-Harrison) in 1928; construction of Interstate 270 in 1957; completion of Euclid Stadium lacrosse field in 1968; establishment of City Hall building in 19743; dedication ceremonies for both Maplewood Cemetery and First Baptist Church (now Stroudsburg United Methodist Church) back-to-back years later4 Additionally, there are numerous other significant events that have taken place within Worcester Township over time such as patriotic parades or carnivals that celebrate local culture5 These events help contribute to Worcester Township’s unique flavor and history6
Worthington was founded in 1792 by George Worthington and the first post office was established in 1793. The town became a village in 1812, and it became a city in 1902. In 1951, Worthington merged with Alliance City to form the present-day city of Worthington.
