Gun sights were first patented in Worthington, Ohio in 1854. The patent was for a sight that used an adjustable lens to aim a firearm. This sight is still in use today and is known as the Worthington Sight.
There are many types of sights for firearms, but the three most common are iron sights, Aimpoint dots, and weapon sights. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Iron sights allow the shooter to see what they're shooting at directly. They can be mounted on rifles or handguns in a variety of places, including the front sight post and around the barrel. The advantage of these types of sights is that they're usually less expensive and easier to find than other types of sighting devices.
The first gun sights in Worthington were a pair of octagon-shaped iron sights. These were mounted on the top of two shotguns and used to aim the guns at rabbit or deer targets. The availability of good, reliable rifle sights made these shotgun sights obsolete in the early 1800s. A more advanced design was developed by Josiah Bartlett and patented in 1802. This design featured a perforated disk that allowed rounds to be fired without being blocked by the disk. Unfortunately, this patent was not assigned to anyone until after Bartlett's death, which made it difficult to produce and distribute this new type of rifle sight.
Worthington, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and is the seat of Delaware County. The population was 497 at the 2010 census, up from 472 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The township was established in 1813, when it was adjacent to present-day Worthington village. It name may come from an English place name meaning "wandering people". The first post office in Worthington opened in 1816. In 1830, land between Worthington and Athens became part of Delaware County; Worthington became its own town on December 1, 1833. Worthington's economy has been based largely on agriculture since its founding; however, manufacturing has also played a role in its history. The town's first company store was built in 1870 and it currently operates four businesses: one bank (Cleveland Trust Co.), two schools (Ohio State University and Western Reserve University), and two churches (First Baptist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church). In 2008, Worthington attracted national attention when local resident John Lennon died aged 30 after years of health problems caused by an autoimmune disease called pancreatitis which he had prevented from becoming worse with diet and exercise

It was not until the early 18th century that pistols began to be issued as part of the army. With this new technology, gun sights became more important for handguns than rifles. Today, most handguns use either iron sights or short-barreled shotguns have a rear sight with an adjustable front tritium sighting system (SBS). The iron sights are typically mounted on turrets which rotate to provide reference points for aiming. Shotguns also feature rear sights with adjustable optics to help with variable velocity target acquisition. The first iron sights consisted of a small aperture at the top of the barrel through which the eye could view the target while pointing downrange. The second type of iron sight was created in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and it consisted of two circles that rotated around each other to form a crosshair. These scopes were used on breechloading weapons such as revolvers and muskets where primer ignition provided fire direction information to the shooter’s eye instead of relying on line-of-sight estimates from a naked eye
The first modern firearms sights appeared in the early 17th century. The French Huguenot Philippe de la Motte designed a sight in 1637 that allowed use of a crosshair on an arc-shaped target to help aim. This innovation was followed by other European gunners, and eventually became standard on most firearms across the world by the 18th century.
Worthington is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncy Metropolitan Statistical Area. Worthington began as a Quaker settlement on the Scioto River in 1796. The first post office was established in 1802. The town was named for George Worthington, an early settler and one of the original trustees of Kent State University. In 1824, Worthington became the capital of Ohio Territory; it lost this status in 1830 when Ohio became a state. The Worthington Manufacturing Company was founded in 1865 by Nicholas Worthington and his brother John Prentice to produce wagons and other vehicles used by farmers and travelers throughout central Ohio. For many years, the company dominated local production and exported its products around the world. In 1907, Nicholas Worthington sold his interest in the company to his son-in-law Edward Hogue Sr., who renamed it The Hogue Corporation. At its peak during World War II, The Hogue Corporation produced more than 100 vessels per day for naval use alone. However, after the war ended hostilities among America's great powers collapsed economic conditions deteriorated rapidly across much of Europe so much so that production ceased entirely within two years; however exports continued until 1974 When Edward Hogue Jr.'s death created new ownership issues with respect to some assets including shipyards operations which were placed into receivership later that year according to public records Economic decline following end of World War II led to plant closings which resulted in significant job loss throughout most U .S . industry during late 40’s through 50’s especially within Shipbuilding and Dry Dock trade those closures resulting directly from Japanese Invasion & Occupation
Worthington was first settled in the early 1800s by Dutch farmers. The area became an agricultural center after a canal was constructed through the area. The town name is based on the Manor of Worthington, which was once part of the Crown land that was confiscated from the Dutch during the English Conquest of Holland in 1672.
