Worthington is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Perry County. The population was 36,827 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Perry County by population. It is also one of two cities in the Tri-Cities metropolitan area, with Cleveland (the other) being its larger neighbor to the south. Worthington is located on the southern edge of Columbus, just east of I-675 and west of US 621/IO 82. Worthington was founded in 1812 as Westfield by George Worthington and his family from Canterbury, England. The town was platted in 1824 by John Davenport and others under the name "New Athens". In 1846, it became part of newly formed Perry County when it was created from parts of Columbiana and Ottawa counties. The first post office was established in Worthington on July 8, 1824; it was discontinued on December 14, 1850 because postal service within Perry County had been provided by nearby Kingston until then. The current municipal headquarters were built between 1913 and 1915 as a replacement for an earlier structure that burned down during a severe winter storm that year. From 1912 through 1924 they were occupied by Judge Wm Halsey Coolidge's law firm; following his death they passed through several owners before becoming vacant again until they were purchased by Mayor Robert Bogan in 1984 who kept them until he moved out after serving three terms (1987–1993). They have since been used as City Hall but are now open to the public as part of Mayor Bogan's official residence which also includes his private office adjacent to City Hall which houses both his home office and various council chambers including those for Waterfront Development Authority (WDA), zoning board, planning commission etc., among others... After years languishing on Capitol Hill while their doors sat closed due to lack of use or funding from City Council Members Bob Gossage or Rich Ziegler their fate changed when Councilwoman Kathy Selbin took office majority leader following what she characterized as an opportunity given to her by then-mayor Gossage after she won election against then-Councilman Tom Foley...Selbin quickly committed herself to restoring useability to City Hall which she did not stop short at simply turning back Senate Bill 4461 which would have consolidated all local government functions into one entity known as "Citywide Services" with no mention whatsoever about returning Chancery Court Building back into city control only days later upon learning about this decision prior to its vote germane thereto via email obtained pursuant to Open Records requests made after passage thereof pending written objection from Attorney General David Jentzsch...Ziegler vetoed SB 4461 despite knowing full well its impact having already killed off more than half a dozen potential business opportunities brought forward thereby effectively gutting over $1 million worthworth of economic development potential within just four short months...This sets apattern whereby elected officials rubber stamp decisions made outside their constituency without any meaningful discussion or input save for canned statements thereafter voting along party lines regardless... Futile efforts are now being made each year thereafter culminating with last minute vetoes occurring once again this past November whereupon Selbin threatened legal action should such vetoes be repeated should new legislation not pass subsequently resulting in her losing her grip on power

Worthington, Ohio is an unincorporated community in Medina County, Ohio, United States. It lies along the Miami and Erie Canal. The community was laid out in 1828 by John Worthington. It became a town in 1836 and it had a post office from 1838 to 1945.
Worthington was founded in 1788 by Joshua Worthington and his wife, Judith. The town was named for the waters of the same name that Obi Wan Kenobi used to find his way to Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine. The town grew quickly and by 1811 it had a population of over 300 people. In 1834, Worthington became a city and prospered through development of its industries such as lumber, cotton farming, and shoe manufacturing. A streetcar system was established in Worthington in 1847 and the city annexed neighboring village of Liberty in 1865. By 1915, Worthington had an estimated population of 4,000 people and was serving as a center for trade with surrounding villages. However, World War I caused significant economic decline which led to the abandonment of many businesses in the 1920s. In 1969, Worthington re-emerged as an important center for technology with the establishment of The Ohio Data Company headquarters. Since then, much redevelopment has occurred within the city limits including the construction of several large new buildings such as The Ohio State University's Wexner Center for Economics and Business Administration and Quinnipiac University's John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum
