Worthington is a small town in southwestern Ohio, located approximately 25 miles southwest of Cincinnati. The population was 10,735 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Morgan County. The first people to live in Worthington were Native Americans who arrived in the area during the early 1800s. In 1811, Colonel George Rogers Clark and his army invaded Indian Territory and discovered what would become Worthington – a small village on the Scioto River that had been abandoned by its previous inhabitants because of persecution from European settlers. The new arrivals quickly began to populate the area and there are still many descendants of these early pioneers living in Worthington today. In 1827, General David Hunter named one of two forks of the Scioto River after General John Armstrong – one near modern day Painesville and one about two miles downstream at present-day Ironton. This was an intentional move by General Hunter to create a buffer between himself and British forces stationed in Canada across the river. As time passed and settlements grew along both forks, it became increasingly difficult for Europeans to find enough land to retire on so they decided to rename both forks after themselves instead. In 1830, when Ohio became a state, part of Morgan County was transferred from Hamilton County into Morgan County as well. This gave Worthington an official status as county seat although it retains its original name (from Colonel Clark's renamed fork). The first courthouse in Worthington was built on Main Street in 1837 which served until 1889 when a new courthouse was built on Veterans Drive which remains operational today. During World War II, much activity took place within Worthington due to its location close to several military bases including West Point Army Military Academy and Fort Knox barracks where large numbers of troops were trained for war effort; also located nearby were two largescale munitions plants called "Morton Manufacturing Company" which manufactured targets for artillery fire and "Whitney Rubber Plant" which made rubber tires for trucks etc., as well as other factories operated by local companies such as automotive manufacturer Dodge Brothers Incorporated with their main plant located just outside town limits on Delaware Avenue adjacent to Zions Hospital now known as Stlessen Hospitality Holding Co.; all this activity led directly or indirectly to creation or expansion of some 5 million square feet (460,000 m²) worth of manufacturing space within town limits since 1945 alone! Todayadays, many businesses continue operations withintown limits despite being headquartered out-of-town due largelyto strong economic growth experienced throughout Greater Cincinnati over recent decades while portions surroundingthetown have seen significant decline or abandonment; however there are numerous restaurants/cafés/bars open 24/7 serving up delicious food right hereabouts!

Worthington was founded by James Worthington in 1792. The town was named after the nearby village of Worting on the Scioto River. In 1814, Worthington became a part of the United States and its first President, Andrew Johnson, signed an act creating the General Land Office here. The office processed land acquisitions for planter families such as John Deere and George Rogers Clark. It also functioned as a land registry andLicensing Authority for early settlers in central Ohio. The Panic of 1837 led to a decline in business activity in Worthington, but it did not lose its importance as a manufacturing center during the Victorian era.During this time, businesses like J C Penney and Sears Roebuck developed here. In1924, Worthington acquired what is now known as Wright-Patterson Air Force Base from the United States War Department for $21 million dollars cash. This gave rise to one of the most important military installations in central Ohio with over 1,200 employees and 2 dozen planes stationed here at various times throughout World War II and Korean War periods. In 1951, Worthington announced that it would be moving away from its traditional agricultural orientation and become an industrial center under new leadership including Mayor Godfrey Weisner Jr., who served until his death in 1978; Dr Joseph A Kappelmeyer; Dr Norman Sizer; Howard Hughes;and many more prominent citizens throughout the years.Today's economy is based primarily on health care services with represented by Methodist Healthcare Corporation (MHC) which has its headquarters located within walking distance of both City Hall Plaza and Main Street Fire Station No 2 which offers firefighting services 24/7/365
