Worthington is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 5,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Worthington arrived in 1797, and by 1812, it had a population of about fifty residents. The town plat was filed in 1814 and named for Nicholas Worthington, an Englishman who had settled in that area two years earlier. Worthington's first school was built on the present-day site of State Route 6 just east of its junction with US 231 (now I-675). This building served as a public school until 1834 when it was replaced by a more spacious edifice which still stands today on Main Street between High and Low Streets. In 1857, Worthington became a city under the provisions of the General Assembly's "Apportionment Act." At this time, it had a total population of over 7500 inhabitants according to one source; however, by 1860 only 4558 people lived within its limits! In 1870, City Hall was built steps away from where Main Street meets Scioto Avenue and remains today an important civic center for Worthington – hosting both city council meetings and events such as music festivals and parade nights. In 1916/1917, Wallace Hargrave donated land to build what would become Green Park – now home to many local businesses including Pritchard’s grocery store and Mrs. Weiland’s restaurant which continues to serve up great food today! In addition to its namesake park (formerly known as "Goode Park"), other major attractions include:• The Worthington Battlefield Museum - open daily 9 am to 3 pm; features displays on history associated with Worthington during World War II as well as current events; • The Hanna Art Gallery - open Tuesdays through Sundays 8 am to 4 pm; features contemporary art from around Ohio & nationwide; • Costello’s Grocery - opened in 1924 grown into one of downtown’s most popular shopping destinations with over 100 stores now comprising its inventory; • Lake Erie County Courthouse Annex - housed various courthouse services before being annexed into City Hall circa 1970; * American Legion Building – also housed various court services from 1920 until 1961 before being moved across Scioto Ave.; • Phillips Department Store - founded 1922 closed down 1983 but reopened primarily as an antique store & gift shop prior to closing again in 2007 & currently operates under new ownership• Stifler Recreation Center - opened 1959 includes an indoor pool& gymnasium allowing for multi-purpose useage year round along with baseball diamonds turf fields tennis courts etc.;• Methodist Episcopal Church at 601 Elmira Road serves worshipers both morning & evening every day except Christmas Eve or Christmas Day (choose another day);• Foster House Museum Complex contains approximately sixty items spanning three centuries documenting aspectsrelatedto family life including farmstead architecture Homespun clothing Denison Pottery Handicrafts Doll Making Rocking Chair Toys “Tootsie Rolles” early 20th century prohibition period memorabilia etc.—opening hours vary each day but generally operate 9am-5pm Wednesdays thru Fridays 9am-4pm Saturdays 10am-3pm Sundays Closed Mondays off peak seasons Today's economy focuses heavily upon research institutions such as University Circle Business Solutions and Nationwide Children's Hospital that are all located within walking distance of downtown while smaller businesses continue employing locals throughout much of daytime hours these days too including several small banks dotting central business district streets

In 1838, John Swayne built the first known house in Worthington. By 1840, there were twenty-one residents living in Worthington. The first school was opened in 1845 and quickly became popular because of its accessibility to children from surrounding villages. The village acquired its current name of Worthington in 1870 when it merged with neighboring townships to form the present day township of Worthington. There are currently sixteen businesses and two churches located within the limits of the town proper; as well as one library which serves all of northwestern Ohio.
