Worthington is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 12,583 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in Cleveland and the largest city on the west side of Greater Cleveland. The history of Worthington goes back to 1812 when it was founded by Joshua Worthington as a small settlement on what is now Hocking Avenue. Joshua's father built a log cabin there and named it "Worthington". In 1828, Joshua's brother John founded the city of Cleveland and moved his family there from Worthington. By 1830, all of Worthington had been incorporated into Cleveland. In 1836, settlers James Sprague and Samuel Snyder bought land east of present-day Maple Leaf Cemetery for $1 per acre (0.4 km²). They started farming that land in what is now Willoughby Township and named their new village "Worthington". On December 3, 1836, they laid out a grid system for their village with roads running north-south; these were later replaced by alleys. On October 15, 1840, residents voted to incorporate as a town under the name "Cleveland". The first mayor was George Washington Cook (1841–1846). In 1850, part of Worthington became part of Euclid Township; this coincided with the creation of Cleveland Municipal District No. 2 which included most of what is now Cuyahoga County except for parts of Lake Erie Heights and Mentor Hill areas near Akron University. Under municipal government control until 1903 when it passed into private hands again following an election victory by one vote over two ballots by Mayor Edward Grosseman (1893–1903), much manufacturing took place in downtowns such as mills run by Elisha Gray & Sons seed company or Aerdmans Pharmaceuticals company . However Lincoln Electric Company head office relocated its operations to Highland Park in 1917 due to wartime restrictions on munitions production throughout much of northeast Ohio because Dayton had become the war capital after General Motors announced plans to build Indianapolis heavy truck plants Thereafter industrial output declined rapidly in downtowns while suburban growth continued unabated . This changed during World War II when many manufacturers decided central production would be more efficient using plant located outside Dayton including GM’s Buick Arsenal factory adjacent to Willowbrook park where construction began on President Franklin D Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9100 providing jobs for auto workersduring WW2

Worthington is a small town in Butler County, Ohio, with a population of approximately 6,000. The town was founded in 1824 by the merger of the two settlements of Worthington and West Union. The original name for the town was "Newburgh." It was renamed to Worthington in 1868 after General George Washington Worthington, who served as an officer in the United States Army during the Mexican-American War. The first store in Worthington opened its doors on Main Street in 1824. A post office was established at Worthington in 1830, and remained in operation until it closed in 1865. In 1870, the Newburgh Turnpike was built through Worthington and became one of the first tollroads east of the Mississippi River. In 1892, worthingtonschool district No. 1 merged into Hamilton Township schools; however, school District 2 continued to operate separate schools until 1984 when they were combined into one system under which all students attend school within their respective districts). The West Union School District reopened on October 1st1973 after being closed for many years due to budget cuts made by then Superintendent Donny Wahlstrom (now Manager at Longwood University). The first settler in Worthington was Captain John Denny who arrived on July 5, 1800 and named it for his home town of Wolverhampton in Staffordshire, England. Denny's family had come over on the Mayflower from England in 1620. In 1802, James Fenton established a gristmill here which continued operation until 1859 when it was taken over by the Union Carbide Company. The millstones that still stand today were brought over on wagonloads of flour from Kentucky during this time period. In 1865, George Stephenson founded the Cleveland &Akron Railroad which ran through Worthington connecting Cleveland with Akron and other towns near Lake Erie. The railroad helped spur industrial growth here and made Worthington one of the most important cities within commuting distance for workers throughout Northeast Ohio during this time period. In 1908, Worthington became financially independent from Cleveland when it incorporated as a separate city under the name of "Worthington Heights". During World War II, Worthington played an important role as an ammunition production center due to its location proximate to several major munitions factories such as General Dynamics Plant No 4 (later known as Westinghouse Electric) and Chrysler Corporation’s Lorain-Hesston Plant No 3A (now part of United Technologies). After hostilities ceased there began a rapid expansion of housing development around Worthington Center Mall which soon outgrew its original boundaries becoming one of Greater Cincinnati’s largest districts for both commercial and residential real estate development outside downtown Cincinnati proper! Worthington continues to be an vibrant community with active businesses and cultural venues that date back more than two centuries - be they local eateries or historical landmarks like USS Constitution Museum!
