Willowick is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located in the Geauga County seat of Ravenna. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Willowick were David and Susanna Salter who arrived on horseback in 1791 from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They followed the forks of the Cuyahoga River to what is now Willowick and named their new location after a willow tree they saw near their farmstead on Beech Grove Road. The community site was platted in 1802 by Jacob Brown with James Kapp as his surveyor. The village name may have come about because Willoughby Township was created adjacent to Willowick Village when that township was organized in 1809 from parts of Geauga and Medina counties. In 1812, John Fenton bought land at present day Elmira and Cedar Streets for $1,000 which he used for farming until his death in 1826; it remained unsold untilbbquake destroyed much of downtown Ravenna during an1837 fire which also destroyed many homes throughoutGeauga County. In 1814-15, two brothers by the name of Dickey erected a mill on Little Beaver Creek just east of present day Elmira Street (now Canal Street) – one still stands today although its machinery has been replaced by computers – this mill became known as “Dickey’s Mill” after them because its owner Samuel Dickey Sr., later Congressman from Ohio's 3rd Congressional District (1907-1913). From here early pioneers drove outa bandeau or buffalo hunter who had settled around this location some time before 1800; these Indians are generally thought to have been Creekshawnee/ Shawnee Chiefdom natives who began engaging in hunting large game along Ohio's northern border about 1800-1810 A group led by Captain Simon Kenton traveled throughGeauga County between Marietta and Buffalo Lake towards Canandaigua Falls during late summer or fall 1830 while surveying Indian Territory acquired thereby via treaty with Great Britain; when they reached near present day Willowick they found it uninhabited so decided to stay'; Captain Kenton reported back to America at Utica that night September 15th 1830 having discovered more than seventyfive Fur traders camping amongthe Shawnee Nation west of Western New York City including several families associated with Sir George Stephenson - thus beginning what would become known as Anglo-American exploration and trade within Indian Territory
