Willowick is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,988 at the 2010 census. Willowick took its name from the Willow family of early settlers. The first post office in Willowick was established in 1821. The current post office building was built in 1892 and is located on Delaware Avenue near the intersection of Delaware and Elm Streets. In 1824, a group of men and women under the leadership of Captain John Rhett founded what is now known as Brush Hill Baptist Church. Reverend Moses White served as pastor until his death in 1837. The Brush Hill School District No.1 was organized in 1888, and became part of the Cleveland-Muncy School District No.2 on October 1, 1909. In 1915, the name of the school district changed to Willowick-Linwood Township Schools when it merged with that district’s Linwood Township schools to form one large school system for all township students within Butler County (with a separate board for each). Willowick had its own newspaper from 1793 until 1923 when it merged with nearby Euclid's paper to form The Euclid Gazetteer & Herald . When The Gazetteer & Herald folded after two years due to financial difficulties, Willowick's last independent paper continued publication for three more years as The Review 'til it finally went out of business too also due to economic problems in 1938.- late 1800s
Willowick is located in the heart of the Cleveland-Akron area and has been a part of Ohio history for over 100 years. The town was founded in 1836 by Captain John G. Willowick and his wife, Rebecca. It was named after an oak tree that grew near the Pawlet River. In 1837, Captain Willowick erected a log cabin on what is now Elm Street in the town. In 1850, the first school was built in Willowick, and it remained in operation until 1978. In 1865, Willy Wick started a flour mill in Willowick which became one of the largest flour mills in Ohio until it closed its doors in 1969. The town also had a gas station from 1941 to 1967.
