Willowick is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Area. The town was platted on February 14, 1824 by Nicholas Wilkinson and James Hanna. The name may be derived from WILLOW CREEK which flows through the town. Willowick first became a village on October 15, 1826 when it had a population of seventy two people. On December 12, 1835, Willowick became an incorporated town with a population of one thousand five hundred fifty three people. On November 3rd 1897, Willowick merged with neighbouring towns of Mentor and Parma to form the Cleveland-Mentor-Parma Combined Statistical Area (CMA). At that time there were twelve municipalities in the CMA including Willowick. In 1910, Willowick's main street was renamed "Century Boulevard" in commemoration of its centennial anniversary as well as other accolades such as being one of America's "oldest continuously inhabited" communities and having been home to many noted American citizens including former Presidents Ulysses S Grant and Rutherford B Hayes among others On May 6th 2009 residents of Willowick voted on ballot question proposing that their community become an official city within the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area

Willowick is a town in Clinton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,023 at the 2010 census. Willowick is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Willowick were French traders in 1692. It was named for Willoughby on the Cuyahoga River north of Cleveland. In 1795, a group of soldiers from Fort Pitt garrisoned in what is now Willowick fought an encounter with Native Americans that ended with the death of one Native American and three British soldiers. In 1814, General Daniel Morgan's forces burned down the village of Sandusky after raiding it for goods sent by General Anthony Wayne from Battle Creek, Michigan Territory. The site is now known as Old Willowick Village Historic District. The town was rechartered as a village in 1825 and became a city in 1907 when Cleveland became its first metropolitan area. The main economic base of Willowick has been agriculture since its inception as a small community near the Great Lakes region; however, other sectors have also had some involvement over time including manufacturing (including machine tools), health care (through clinics and hospitals), retail trade and light industry such as brewing and textiles before moving into more established businesses more recently such as software development services and consulting firms.
The Willowick area of Ohio was first settled by the Shawnee in the 17th century. The area was part of the Northwest Territory during the time of the American Revolution. In 1795, the United States Congress created a new district named for Willoughby County, Ohio, which included parts of present-day Willowick and other settlements in what is now central Ohio. The area became a part of Indiana in 1802. In 1814, General James K. Polk led an army through Willoughby County to attack a Native American encampment near Steubenville, Pennsylvania. After routing the Indian force and capturing many goods, Polk's troops set fire to the village and destroyed all its buildings but one, which still stands today as a reminder of that event. In 1837, when Wilkey Township was organized within Summit County from Miami Township, it became apparent that there would be few people living in that portion of Summit County because most residents had moved away to escape violence and government debtors' prison conditions at Fort Wayne (now Indianapolis). So Wilkey Township was organized into two townships: West Liberty Township (named for West Liberty Parish on Long Island) and East Liberty Township (named for East Liberty Parish on Long Island). In 1903, both West Liberty Township and East Liberty Township were consolidated into one township called Willowick. A number of businesses were established around town during this time including The Herbalist Shop and Mrs. Morelli's Bakery; several schools were built including Cleveland High School (opened in 1907), Cincinnati Military Academy (opened in 1909), Stuyvesant High School (opened in 1922), and Our Lady Of Fatima School (opened in 1924). A post office was also established at Willowick in 1903. During World War I, Willowick served as headquarters for US First Army Group Middle Eastern Expeditionary Force located along Sycamore River northeast of Dayton OH; after hostilities ended this group relocated to Cairo IL before returning home to Willowick late summer 1919
