Willoughby, Ohio is a small city located in the southwestern corner of Ohio. It is bordered by the states of West Virginia to the north and Indiana to the east and south. The population was 7,526 at the 2010 census. The Willoughby area was settled in 1812 when General James K. Polk built his home on land he purchased from a Native American tribe. In 1825, John Hennepin organized a wagon company and founded what became known as Hennepin County. The town of Willoughby was platted in 1829 by Jens Jorgensen, who named it for his friend and mentor William Sanderson, who had been killed in an accident while exploring new territory in what is now Oklahoma Territory. As early as 1840, Willoughby began importing manufactured goods from Illinois via canal and railroads; this helped make Willoughby one of the leading industrial cities in America. By 1860, it had become one of the largest cities in northeast Ohio with over 100 businesses employing more than 10,000 people. In 1865, following Union victory over Confederate forces during the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln issued an Executive Order creating Cleveland National Bank and giving its employees voting privileges within national organizations such as labor unions; this created a boom for Cleveland-area businesses that contributed heavily to Democratic Party political coffers during Reconstruction terms (1868-1877). In 1895–96 local officials erected a Monument to Our Country's Veterans which still stands today at Elmira Road and West Fifth Street across from City Hall; this stone tablet honors soldiers who have served or are serving throughout our country’s history – including Ulysses S. Grant (1841-1924), Franklin D Roosevelt (1915-1945), George Washington (1732-1799), Woodrow Wilson (1856-1927) and Dwight Eisenhower (1946-2008). During World War II much of Wilcohoby were bombed by Nazi Germany; however all but two buildings were destroyed or damaged only lightly; these included City Hall which survived partly because it was used as training barracks for local firefighters before being requisitioned for use as military facilities during war time After the war Wilcohoby experienced rapid growth due to new housing developments along Elmira Road that were financed by tax collections generated from manufacturing plants closed down during wartime years such as those at Beech Aircraft Corp., Maytag Co., etc.; these developments continue up until present day with many large apartment complexes/residential neighborhoods having been constructed around downtown since postwar times . Today Wilcohoby continues to be an important center for commerce with several high technology companies locating there including Sybase Incorporated which moved its headquarters from Armonk NY after spending 25 years there ; Wells Fargo & Company has also recently relocated their headquarters here .

Willoughby, Ohio was founded in 1795 by General George Washington as a parish in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The town was named after John Willoughby, 1st Baronet of Nottinghamshire who had donated land to the fledgling community. In 1802, County government was established and Willoughby became an incorporated municipality. The population of the municipality peaked at 14,000 in 1920 but fell to 6,500 by 1930 due to World War II restrictions on immigration. growth resumed after the war with the opening of Interstate 80 which brought more people and businesses to the town. The current incarnation of Willoughby began developing when a group of farmers purchased land near what is now Main Street in 1965. They constructed a farmstead that still stands today and renamed it Willoughby Woods Park after their home park located in nearby Mount Vernon Township. The first mayor of Willoughby was Melvin Ladd who served from 1969-1975. From 1976-1981 Mayor Lloyd Jantz held office; he is credited with helping make significant changes to city ordinances and regulations which helped revive the downtown area and promote economic development within the town limits. In 1984, Mayor Jantz resigned citing health reasons and was replaced by his deputy mayor Donnelle Whitehead; she also served for four years before leaving for another job outside of city government altogether. After six months on the job she returned to take over as acting mayor until a new mayoral election could be held which saw incumbent David Kapp win despite having no Republican representation in his township! Kapp has been mayor since 2003 having won reelection twice prior; he previously served as councilman from 1991-2003 and school board member from 2005-2013. He currently resides on Councilman’s Court where he chairs both chambers along with his wife Jenifer (a state representative).
