Wickliffe, Ohio is a small town located in the state of Ohio. It was founded in 1814 by Captain James Wickliffe and his wife Esther. The town initially consisted of just over a hundred residents. In 1860, Wickliffe became the capital of the newly created condition of Hardin County. From 1861 to 1871, Hardin County was divided into two districts: Wickliffe District and Delaware District. These districts were abolished on January 1, 1971, and replaced with Waterville Township and Park Township respectively. From 1971 to 1982, Wickliffe was part of the Athens-Mound City metropolitan area. On November 3, 2002, Athens-Mound City repealed its charter and became an unincorporated community within Stark County. On October 15, 2006, Wickliffe filed for bankruptcy protection after experiencing budget cuts which have impacted many aspects of its economy including education and public services.

Wickliffe is a small town in the southwestern corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. Wickliffe is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies about 18 miles (29 km) south of downtown Cincinnati and 16 miles (25 km) east of Middletown. The first European settlers in Wickliffe were families from England who arrived in 1796. They founded a cabin on the Scioto River and started to grow corn and beans. In 1802 they erected a log church on land that now forms part of the village square. The town was named for John Wickliffe, an English gentleman who came to America in 1794 with his family and began trading goods with Native Americans near present day Dayton, Ohio. John Wickcliffe built a gristmill on what is now Main Street in 1807 and founded what would eventually become Wickliffe Academy which became one of the first high schools in Ohio. In 1830 he donated land for a cemetery which still exists today within the boundaries of the current village square. In 1837 Western Reserve Bank opened its doors as the first bank west of the Allegheny Mountains when it moved from Cleveland to open its branch office in Hickory Grove Township northwest of Wickliffe Village Square. On July 1, 1938, due to World War II restrictions limiting lending institutions to northern states only, Wickliff's First National Bank merged into WCB National Banks predecessor company – also headquartered in Hickory Grove Township northwest ofwicklette – becoming one entity with both branches located within one building until 1993 when WCB moved across county line into Delaware County (). On November 15, 1928 Congressman James Kahl introduced HJR 3010 (now HR 612), An Act designating October 14th through November 15th as "John Fife Day" in memory of congressman JF Wadsworth (R-Ohio). This act designated October 14th throughNovember 15th each year as "John Fife Day" throughout most or all 92 years since he served during that time span as Clerk Of The House Of Representatives from 1951-1977 inclusive; making him longest serving congressman ever! On February 2nd 2009 President Barack Obama made history by becoming just second US president after George Washington to visit Ackerman Corners where he signed legislation creating workmen’s compensation insurance for federal employees setting an example for other nations feeling pressured by global economic conditions not yet able or willing to provide such benefits!
