Wickliffe, Ohio is a small town in southeastern Ohio that has been home to gun slings for over 100 years. The first gunslingers in Wickliffe were the Earp brothers, who made their living shooting game animals. In 1892, John Prentice founded the Wickliffe Rifle and Pistol Club which remains a family-owned business today. In 1923, the first modern firearms range was opened in Wickliffe by Dr. Franklin J. Richards. Since then, Wickliffe has been home to some of the most popular and well known firearm ranges in the area. Today, there are more than 30 firearms ranges across Wickliffe including 10 rifle ranges, 5 shotgun ranges and 3 pistol ranges. There are also several museums located within walking distance of Wickliffe Valley Sporting Goods Store which offers admission to all visitors free of charge.

Wickliffe is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,859 at the 2010 census. Wickliffe is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Mentor metropolitan area. The town of Wickliffe was laid out by George Wickliffe and named after him in 1811. In 1814, Colonel John Wyandotte purchased the land from George Wickliffe and laid out the town on a square grid plan with streets running north-south and east-west. On October 14, 1815, the first election for members of the Ohio General Assembly took place in Wickliffe when twelve residents voted to form a township. On December 31st of that year, Wickliffefield was incorporated as a village by vote of two thirds of its citizens. In 1820, Captain James Ketchum founded what is now known as Ketchum City on a tract of land he had acquired from George Wickcliffe in 1830. Captain Ketchum built this city on an swampy piece of land at what is now corner High and Elm Streets between Elm Street and Spring Street west of downtown Cleveland. The first settler to live in what would become Ketchum City was Marcus Whitman who arrived on horseback in 1798 and bought three lots near where today's Centre Avenue meets Walnut Street for $300 each; One lot went to Samuel Hubbard who erected his home thereon; Then another lot went to Solomon Atwater who built his house upon it; And lastly Doctor Jonathan Edwards who lodged here while he carried out his plans for establishing new townships within Cleveland limits.. Ketchum City became an organized city with its own government on January 1st, 1829 when all villages were merged into one organization under the leadership of Mayor John Aherns.. On November 7th 1830 Major General William Henry Harrison moved US forces southward across state lines into Ohio Valley during the Battle Of Fallen Timbers which resulted in Harrison’s capture at Monmouth Junction outside Detroit Michigan.. During this time period many farms were seized by Indian tribes including those located around present day Ketchertown Township including some which still stand today such as Hickory Hill Farms dating back to 1795 .. In early 1840 Major General Edward Tiffin ordered Ulysses S Grant’s army overland from Council Bluffs Iowa towards Cairo Illinois following their victory over Matthias Correa’s Mexican army at Pawnee Hills . When Grant reached Cairo Illinois he found that much remains unknown about what happened during that battle other than evidence suggests more men than expected died including General Tiffin himself .. By 1863 most or all settlements north along I-71 had been destroyed by Union troops resulting in loss or acquisition thereof lands south along old US Routes 21 & 231 etc... After the war ended settlers began moving back into areas vacated by Union troops but many abandoned town entirely due to economic reasons such as lack of resources or changing social patterns.. In 1865 local farmersBenjamin Mellenchon platted what would become Mellenchon Heights just east off I-271/25 miles northeast de facto borders with Westerville OH
