Wickliffe is a small town in the Delaware County of Ohio, United States. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Wickliffe is one of the oldest towns in Ohio and was founded by colonists from England in 1786. The name "Wickliffe" comes from John Wicklow, a Irishman who had married an Englishwoman and settled in what is today Delaware County. The first settler in Wickliffe was John Fenton, who arrived in 1786. He built a cabin on his farm across the road from present-day downtown Wickliffe. In 1807, another Englishman named Samuel Pickering moved to Wickliffe and started a mill here that still stands today. By 1822, there were six families living in Wickliffe; four of these lived on Pickering's farmstead while two more lived at various other locations around town before settling permanently at number 7 Elm Street near where current day Market Square sits. In 1827-28, three more Englishmen came to live in Wickliffe; they were James Thornbury (1827–29), William Hitchin (1828–30) and Edward Colleen (1829). These men set up stores and began to build homes along Elm Street between High Street and Market Square which would become known as "the Georgian Row." They also built a schoolhouse which was destroyed by fire but rebuilt within two years for use as a Masonic Lodge meeting hall later called Trinity Methodist Church. By 1830, there were twelve families living in Wickcliffe; seven of these lived on Thornbury's farmstead while two others resided at various other locations before settling permanently at number 9 Elm Street near where current day Market Square sits. In 1830-31, one more family came to live here; this was Isaac McCoy who had come over with his father from Virginiaimmigrants during the Great American Migration of 1825-30%. After some initial struggles getting enough land to grow crops/farms etc., McCoy managed to purchase 640 acres east of townline including present day Center Township off High Street for $2 per acre(!) This property became known as "McCoy's Field." On July 1st 1830 McCoy laid out streetscape around his newly purchased field with this colonial style layout: It should be noted that while most streetnames throughout Ohio date back similar colonial style layouts such as "Evelyn", "Highland" or " Georgian Row ", some newer streets have been spelt differently like Parkway or Blossomfield . It should also be noted that although many older maps still show oldfield Streets spelt differently such as Evelyn , Highland etcetera -this has primarily been due to conversion errors by mapmakers over time - most residents nowadays know approximately which Streets originally took their names . Some notable exceptions are Parkway which honors then Mayor David Blumensheiff ('93-'02) - prior thereto its street name may have been something else entirely! While many people remember only about half or even less of these colonial style layout street names mentioned above – it should not be forgotten that those responsible for mapping & compiling Ohio's public vital records kept detailed track & inventoryof all real estate transactions throughout every township (& range) back then! So any discrepancies resulting from modern map conversions are purely coincidental ;) !!!!!!!

Wickliffe, Ohio is a town in Adams County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. Wickliffe is named for Christopher Wickliffe, an early settler and one of the original landowners in the area. The first settlers to what is now Wickliffe were Amish missionaries who came from Lancaster County in 1795. They built a log cabin on a pond near present-day Hickory Hill and called it "Wickliffe". The Amish did not establish themselves as a community until after the American Revolution when they began construction of their own homes and barns. In 1801, Jedediah Hocking founded Hocking City on the east bank of the Scioto River in Athens Township. In 1810, he donated land to form Wickliffe Township. When Athens Township was created in 1824, Wickliffe became its only town seat. The first post office was established in Wickliffe on December 2, 1830; it continued operating until it was discontinued on March 14, 1886. The first settler to come to present-day Wicklowe was John Snedeker who arrived around 1800 and built a cabin on high ground overlooking today's intersection of State Route 611 (Wicklowe Road) and US Route 131 (Old Mill Road). He named his settlement "Snedeker's Ferry" because he had difficulty getting goods over the river for his farm three miles downstream at Westwick Ferry Landing. On July 10, 1830 Snedeker married Anna Hemphill from neighboring Uniontown . They soon had six children: three daughters - Susannah born October 5th 1830; Maria born April 3rd 1833; Rebecca born September 25th 1835 - all lived at home with their parents before moving out into separate farms as young adults; John Snedeker Jr., also known as Jonathan or Jayhawk (January 21st 1840August 2nd 1907); Sarah Jane born November 15th 1840 ; Solomon August 22nd 1840 ; while Anna resided with her husband she raised five children plus Martha Jane which she later sent away to live with her father when Anna remarried A third daughter - Elmira Annborn May 11th1831 - died very young unmarried at age 30 years old due to smallpox contracted while living with her aunt Elmira Greenough just outside of Cuyahoga Falls John Snedeker Sr.'s oldest sonSolomon married Hannah Whipple about1860 located about 4 miles west of where modern day Dimondale lies within Adams county but moved there about 1870 when Solomons died leaving four kids including two girls1and two boysDinwiddie Fenton wife Esther Stanton marriage date unknown Census records list them together however no record has been found showing they ever lived together
Wickliffe was founded in 1792 by Nicholas Wickliffe and his wife Susannah. The town grew quickly, and by 1820 it had a population of over 500 people. In 1851, Wickliffe became the capital of Ohio.
