Wickliffe is a small town in the northwestern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is located in Holmes County. Wickliffe was founded in 1806 by Abram Wickliffe and his wife Elizabeth alias "Betsy". The first settler to arrive was Amos Green who arrived on July 3, 1806. Located on the banks of the Muskingum River, Wickliffe grew rapidly due to its strategic location and numerous natural resources such as timber and coal. By 1812, Wickliffe had a school and a store. In 1814, Abram Wickcliffe built a gristmill that became one of the largest in Ohio. By 1830, Wickliffe had a post office with four employees and two stores. In 1850, John Gorman opened a hotel which developed into one of the largest hotels in central Ohio. In 1861-1865 during the American Civil War, local residents aided Union forces by supplying food provisions and munitions for battle purposes. On October 10th 1865 after five days of fighting one hundred residents gathered at Mrs B's grocery store to surrender any weapons they may have possessed or may have been hiding; this event is commonly referred to as "The Gun Sink." After The war ended many residents decided to move away from rural areas towards larger towns while others decided to keep their guns but convert them into rifles or shotguns under various legal loopholes available at that time such as conversion contracts with armories or barrel re-manufacturing workshops (known as "gunsmithing"). A few years later in 1907 when Wadsworth Arms Manufacturing Co., Incorporated relocated from Cleveland Heights into what is now called Parkland Square Shopping Center across from Ohiopyle Elementary School started producing 22 Winchester rifle barrels made out of .224" diameter steel bored through flanges using an open-joint process then heat treated resulting in an almost seamless finish without any bumps or seams making it virtually bullet proof although still susceptible to failure due proven causes such as corrosive passage over time caused by weather exposure etc.). This allowed for more accurate fireballs thus increasing accuracy shooting distances beyond 100 yards even today thru modern high quality firearms magazines affording shooters greater opportunities for personalization not possible before handguns were popularized including increased range & size selection thru online/phone buys etc.) which has helped further increase demand since 2007 when Wadsworth Arms stopped production

Wickliffe was platted on November 3, 1821, by John Wickliffe and his brother-in-law General David Dixon. The first post office in Wickliffe was established on October 25, 1825. The town developed around two sawmills that were located on the edge of the town and were used to produce lumber for local buildings and other needs. In 1836, a millrace was built east of the original Sawmill Street to bring water from a nearby spring into the millrace for use by the sawmill owners. This mill became known as "The Ganges" after it dried up in 1849. In 1865, Colonel Elisha Stevens donated land within present day Wickliffe limits to build what would become Western Reserve University (now University of Dayton). Stevens also donated money to provideiflements for students and faculty associated with Western Reserve University which included an academy building and library. The university relocated from its original site in Cleveland Heights to this new location in 1870. At that time Wickliffe had no public school system; however western Reserve High School continued until 1896 when it merged into Central High School in Dayton! Today's Wickcliffe Elementary School opened its doors on January 1st, 2009 after closure of Central High School across the street! There are currently over 700 students attending grades PK-12th grade inside this well cared for facility! The staff here continue countless hours each week making sure that every student has access to everything they need including top quality education while also ensuring their personal safety!
