Whitehall is a town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,925 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first white settlers arrived in 1810 and named their community Whitehall after George Washington's estate in Virginia where he had been living as an exile since 1791. The town was platted in 1837 and became a village in 1851. It has since grown to include the communities of Blacklawn, Broadview Heights, Cleveland Heights, and East Liverpool. In 1830, General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved his brigade of cavalry into central Ohio under command of Brigadier General John Crayton to resist Indian attacks on settlements near what is now Akron and Whiteland (now part of Cleveland). When Forrest learned that Major General Josiah Harmar had sent reinforcement to these frontier posts against the Indians - including 200 troops under Colonel James Swayne - he turned back southward along the Great Lakes shoreline towards his home base at Corinth from which he frequently raided Indian villages east of Fort Recovery on Lake Erie until finally reaching Whiteland on July 3, 1830. In 1850 Whitehall's trustees chose to become one of four townships within Lucas County created by order of Governor Andrew Johnson with specific boundaries designed "to secure profitable agricultural production" for all Township residents although only two-thirds were actually served by farms due to distance from markets or transportation options; intended mainly for rural poor who could not afford larger lots or better land elsewhere. As township officials began developing plans for road building through their neighborhoods they realized that most homes within 1/2 mile (0.8 km) radius of each other were identical so they developed Plans & plat maps specifically identifying each house (& lot number if built before 1860) mapping out streets & sidewalks connecting them all which still remains visible today thru Google Earth satellite imagery

Whitehall is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,094 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Whitehall was James Wetherbee who arrived on March 14, 1788. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Great Miami River. The first school in Whitehall was founded in 1793 by Mr. and Mrs. George Washington and taught by Reverend Amos Kendall. In 1801, Whitehall became part of Trumbull County and had its own courthouse and jail until 1806 when it merged with neighboring towns to form Trumbull Township. In 1831, Whitehall had five churches totaling 45 members: Methodist (founded in 1830), Baptist (1834), Presbyterian (1836), Congregationalist (1839) and Unitarian (founded in 1840). One of the early manufacturers in Whitehall was John Sibley who started a gristmill on the Scioto River in 1824. In 1837-38, he erected an addition to his mill which still stands today- now known as Sibley's Mill Building! In 1842-43, during the American Civil War, most of central Ohio was under military occupation because of issues around slavery and states' rights; however much of Trumbull County remained free from Union control due to a loophole that allowed for membership into certain militias without giving up personal liberty or property! The Battle of Watertown took place on April 12th off limits to Union troops but local civilians were caught up in what is considered one of the largest massacres committed against unarmed Americans during the war! Aftermath saw more than 20 people killed including 3 children under 10 years old! This event made national headlines as well as prompting President Abraham Lincoln to call for an investigation into watertown atrocities! After the war ended there were few opportunities for businesses growth so many residents left town mostly seeking opportunity elsewhere across central Ohio or even out west!. However some businesses such as Sibley's Mill continued operations until they closed down due to lack of customers or competition from other mills closer to city centers!. Many descendants currently live within walking distance of their ancestors homes providing plenty OF HISTORY TO ENJOY while living breathing modern day America!!!
