In 1907–1908, Harry S Truman served as president of Harrison County while living in nearby Knuckeystown from 1906 to 1908 before moving back to Independence where he resumed his political career from 1909 to 1913 as mayor of that city before becoming governor of Missouri from 1915 to 1917 before returning to Harrison County where he served until his death on April 12th 1945 at age 70 years old.
