In 1819 the Erie Canal was completed through Whitehall and it became an important commercial center for the area due to its location at the mouth of the canal which made it easy to get goods and people to marketplaces throughout the region." On April 25, 1827 white residents voted 2-to-1 to incorporation intoWarren County after years of petitioning from citizens of other counties who were alarmed at what they saw as an increasing black community developing without proper boundaries or protection." The town charter was granted on May 5th under Governor Edward Lucas's auspices with Charles Anthony serving as mayor until he resigned December 17th because he could not agree to rename Whitehall "Moses". After this event Mayor Anthony then served one term until March 4th when he resigned citing health reasons related to a prior stroke which had caused him great physical pain since childhood." On October 15TH 1830 Samuel Sims signed an ordinance granting voting rights to African Americans who had resided within Township limits since 1800" Two years later Indianola Creek Massacre took place resulting in 3 black men being killed including Captain John Toddsstall alias “Nigger John” as well as 10 settlers killed although only three Africans were among them

It is part of the Dayton-Middletown–Daytona Beach area. Whitehall is a small town with a small school system and no public transportation. The only way to get around town is by walking or biking. The community was first settled in 1814 by Welsh farmers from Cwmbran who named their community "White Hall". A Presbyterian church was built in 1838 and white settlers began arriving from Indiana in droves during the 1840s looking for land to settle. By 1850, there were close to 100 people living in Whitehall. In 1865, when it became clear that Dayton would become the state capital, Whitehall voted to incorporate as a village under its own name instead of continuing to use "White Hall". In 1906, when Dayton annexed Whitesville into its city limits, white residents chose not to secede and continue using "White Hall" as their primary local name; they adopted "Dayton" instead. The community's present name comes about three years later when a group of white businessmen led by Jens Ewing decided to rename their business district after American President George Washington (1735-1801). The economy of Whitehall has been based largely on agriculture since its incorporation into village status until recently when manufacturing has started making an appearance in both light industrial production and exported goods such as textiles but has yet to take off fully as it does elsewhere in central Ohio Valley region due mainly to high energy costs which have made natural resources more affordable than manufactured goods here compare with states like NJ etc where energy prices are skyrocketing especially these days with shale gas being developed locally
