The event featured 12 teams from America and Great Britain. The Columbian Exposition was a world exposition that took place in Chicago from July 4 to August 5, 1893. More than 600 million people toured its exhibits. Gunners from all over the United States participated in the target shoots competition at Columbian Park. Some of these shooters later went onto become famous such as Samuel Colt who created the revolver and John Browning who developed the shotgun. Whitehall is a small town in the Mahoning Valley, located in Franklin County, Ohio. The population was 1,564 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Muncie metropolitan area. The town was founded by David White and his family in 1814 as a place to raise livestock and provide food for their farmstead. In 1827, Whitehall became known as the "capital" of Western Ohio because it served as the seat of government for all of Mahoning County until that county was divided into Warren and Mahoning counties in 1835. In 1896, Whitehall became part of the new United States city of Youngstown. The city's growth has paralleled that of Whitehall since its founding - both have experienced rapid population growth and suburbanification over time. Today, Whitehall is home to many businesses and professionals who commute to downtown Youngstown or more distant suburbs.

Gunfighting between Native Americans and Europeans became common as trading posts grew up throughout New England. Gunners from both sides would come together to shoot at game or other targets on open fields or hillsides. By 1700, European gunrunners had discovered what many naturalists had known about North America: There was great potential for resources here, and hunting was also a major source of income for settlers. In 1630, Englishman John Winthrop founded Plymouth Colony on Massachusetts Bay, one of the earliest colonies in North America. With textile mills booming in England during this time, many new people started moving to Plymouth to set up businesses and start new lives – includinggunners from Europe who followed their fortunes along with their equipment acrossthe ocean.(Fletcher 2) As gunrunning intensified along colonial roads and rivers, so too did rifle competition among men-of-war off American coasts during this period (Glockenwald 1). This type of fighting usually took place at long range over open water when warships could not be reached; however, smaller ships could also act as objective marksman against large prey such as whales or seals.(Coyle) In 1776 British forces under General George Washington attacked Fort McHenry on Long Island after successfully repelling an opposing French force there three months earlier (Lench). As a result of this engagement, public opinion shifted decisively against France throughout much of America during these tumultuous times. Many citizens now saw themselves as defenders of their homeland rather than submissive hostages to a foreign power; moreover, artillery fire fromFort McHenry helped turn the tide against British forces later that year(Walsh). This victory led directly to independence for America and signified a turning point in U.S.-French relations which continued largely unchanged through most of the Revolutionary War era (Anglin). Aftermaths included CONTINUOUS warfare between Patriots & Enemy alike; Hostilities ended by 1802 with Treaty Of Paris

Whitehall was a small town in Defiance County, Ohio, United States, until the early part of the 20th century. It was located on the southern bank of the Scioto River. The population was 1,000 at its peak in 1881. The town declined during the early 1900s as new construction took place along the river and elsewhere inDefiance County. Whitehall's population decreased to 100 by 1910, but it increased to 150 by 1920 because of migration from nearby towns. The last resident left Whitehall in 1930. When Defiance County became a part of Cuyahoga County in 1914, Whitehall continued to be an unincorporated community within that county. In 1932, it merged with neighbouring village of Bellefontaine and became known as Bellefontaine-Whitehall Township (now Defiance Township).
Whitehall was a small town in the Cincinnati-Hamilton County area of Ohio, United States. It is now a ghost town. Whitehall was first settled by families from Kentucky in the late 18th century. The town was incorporated in 1811 and soon became a center for agriculture and timber production. However, the Panic of 1857 caused a sharp decrease in business activity and the town declined until it completely vanished during the Great Depression.
