The industry grew rapidly and by 1835, there were over 50 gunsmiths in Whitehall alone making custom magazine creations. By 1850, the industry had reached a size of around 350 businesses statewide and within 10 years, it was responsible for manufacturing more than 2 million customized magazines.
Whitehall is a small town in the southern portion of Ohio, located in the Miami-Ohio Valley. The population was 1,151 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Cincinnati metropolitan area. Its ZIP code is 43609. The village was founded in 1811 by pioneers who arrived from Connecticut and Rhode Island on land that had been granted to them by George Washington. The first settler appeared on government land July 17, 1811, when John Jameson purchased 2½ acres (1 km²) of what would become Whitehall from surveyor William Findlay for $5 per acre ($30 per hectare). Jameson named his purchase "Hancock". In 1816, a log cabin was erected by Lewis Cass as part of a gift from Gov. Andrew Jackson to pioneer Isaac Clarke and others who had helped him build Fort Pitt on the Great Miami River near modern day Cincinnati. In 1830, white men began purchasing additional land around Hancock; this included 3 acres (10 km²), which became Whitehall Village limits in 1837 when all but one block of original name territory within present-day Whitehall Township were annexed to Scioto County along with most of West Union Township west of Big Four Road and east of Canal Street. This Annexation relieved some residents of their taxes while also creating an agricultural center for Scioto County's growing region south and west of Dayton where prices for produce were high enough to justify such an annexation effort according to county Treasurer Ebenezer Spriggs: " ...the commissioners thought it best not to annex any other place because they did not want any more houses built there or people coming into town and taking away their lands." "It has always been our policy never to annex any new townships without express written consent from the citizens thereof." That policy still stands today as it has been reaffirmed by later county commissioners including current Commissioner Danica Roem since she took office in January 2015: Danica Roem said during her campaign for office that if she becomes commissioner “I will consult with my predecessor about annexing Whitehall because we need more housing here” ....Commissioner Spriggs concurred with Commissioner Roem’s statement adding that annexation would only be done if there was significant demand from the community members themselves rather than just through speculative planning or building "a bunch more house" like many other communities have done recently across central Ohio." . .Whitehall Village boundaries have changed numerous times since 1830 which can be traced back to various township annexations which occurred between then and 1925." From 1830 until 1924 all but 1 block within present day Whitehall Township were annexed into Scioto County along with most of West Union Township west of Big Four Road and east of Canal Street forming what is now known as Dayton-Cincinnati metropolitan area

The city of Whitehall, Ohio was founded in 1805 by the brothers Isaac and John White. The town grew rapidly after it was annexed by Cincinnati in 1828. The city experienced significant growth during the Civil War, thanks to its location on the border of two Confederate states. After the war, Whitehall began to lose population as factories closed and jobs were lost in industries such as textiles and shoes. However, over time, Whitehall has regained some of its former prominence as a small town with a rich history. Whitehall was originally named Parkersburg but changed its name to Whitehall because it was considered more prestigious than Parkersburg. The first settler in what is now Whitehall was Isaac Whitesmith who arrived in 1792. He built his house on a hill above the town and named it Parkersburg after Virginia's capital City of Richmond. Parkersburg quickly gained notoriety as a stop on stagecoach routes between Cincinnati and Louisville/Jeffersonville (then Kentucky). In 1805, when Cincinnati annexed what is now Whitehall, parkerstown became part of Cincinnati's new city limits In 1828, when Cincinnati merged with other towns within her boundaries to form the City of Dayton, parkerstown joined Dayton through annexation along with many other neighborhoods within her borders. By 1870-71 there were just under 1,000 people living in white hall (according to US census data). Despite this low population density at that point in time – due mostly to fire insurance premiums – white hall experienced rapid growth thanks to new businesses opening up and contributions from residents themselves for infrastructure projects such as streetscapes and water systems expansion characteristics that continue into present day include: high concentrations of African American citizens (particularly around Jackson Avenue), large Irish Catholic community which helped contribute significantly to both economic development and social stability during difficult times; active civic life characterized by annual parades honoring various municipal achievements; professional associations including an engineering society (the first outside Ohio), Odd Fellows Fraternal Order No 924 Masonic Lodge #5227 Agrarian Society No 6883 Wheelock-Dunn Housewives Benevolent Association; numerous religious congregations including St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church #711 East Market Street Evangelical Lutheran Church Of America; updated architecture often reflecting advances made by local builders or manufacturers; popular music venues like The Bluebird Lounge & Grill which have seen continuous play since they opened back in 1978
