The technology was developed by Captain James Fenton and Lieutenant John Brown at Fort Henry, Kentucky. This weapon had great potential for firepower but it was not adopted by the United States military until 1836 when Captain George Armstrong Custer killed 5 Sioux warriors with his rifle while they slept on the Little Bighorn Battlefield. In 1834 Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 548 acres (2 km²) within present-day Whitehall Township from John Hargrave for $4,000; this tract became known as Forrest Heights because it boasted high trees that provided cover during American Indian raids. Forrest started construction on his plantation there in 1840 and completed it by 1845–46; henamed it "Forest Park". For many years this largest slaveholding plantation in America functioned as an educational center for African Americans in rural Butler County while also providing slave labor to surrounding farmssteads….Forrest died childless at age 82 years old on November 13th, 1886 while living at Forest Park following an illness that began on October 30th….. Whitehall, Ohio is a small town located in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlers in Whitehall were James and Anne Haggerty who arrived in 1795. They founded a cabin on the Scioto River. In 1814, they added another cabin to their holdings and named it Whitehall after their home country of Ireland. At the time of its founding, Whitehall was part of what was known as the Western Reserve which stretched from Canada to Florida. The area became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and mild climate; during this time it also grew support for local politics because Township meetings were held there (later moved to Akron). In 1828, Captain John Sayers purchased land east of town from Solomon Price for $1,500 and began development of what would become known as Sayers' Mills; that same year he erected a frame courthouse which still stands today (referenced below). From 1830 until 1840s most economic activity occurred within township boundaries due to lack of transportation available outside the township limits at that time. However with increasing travel throughout central Ohio during this period and increased opportunities for trade within township boundaries came increased prosperity for those living within it; businesses sprung up all around Whitehall including two banks – First National Bank & Trust Company (later renamed Huntington Bank) and The Citizens Loan Company – both founded by residents soon after incorporation into village form in 1868 In 1876, Township trustees voted unanimously to name Whitehall "Northeast" after President Ulysses S Grant's National Monument designation which had been announced just prior to their vote Throughout much of 20th century much growth took place outside township boundaries taking place primarily in neighboring villages such as Euclid Heights or Mayfield while some residential development took place near downtown Whitehall although these have since shrunk back considerably following enactment of zoning regulations prohibiting new commercial or industrial developments larger than 50 feet square . By 1990 only one building remained standing from when it opened as said company closed down less than two years later . After more than three centuries of continuous operation as a rural municipality Whiteshalem experienced rapid growth beginning with annexation by nearby Mayfield in 1992 resulting in an increase not only in population but also acreage through annexation by additional communities along Green Road leading south out of town towards Euclid Heights providing eventual replacement for all lost farmland
