The town of Whitehall, Ohio was founded in 1810 by John White and his wife Jane. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Scioto River and its rich natural resources. By 1830, the population had reached 1,200 people. In 1837, President James K. Polk established the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in Whitehall to educate future American leaders. The town continued to grow and prosper until World War II when it was destroyed by a fire. Today, Whitehall is a small community located approximately 15 miles north of Columbus, Ohio on Route 9A close to the Scioto River. Whitehall is known for its beautiful downtown core which has been called "Ohio's most picturesque settlement." The buildings are built around a central square that features a statue of George Washington and several large trees that provide shade during summertime. Additionally, the town has several restaurants and cafes as well as a variety of stores including two heavy industry plants - one producing aluminum cans and one making plastics - which have closed since 1945. Despite these difficulties, Whitehall remains an important center for local commerce and culture with many cultural events taking place throughout the year such as art exhibitions, music concerts or theatre productions.

Whitehall is a town in Findlay County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Summit, OH-MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Whitehall was platted in 1825 and named for General John Fulton Whitehall who fought with George Washington in the American Revolution. Whitehall was originally part of the Scioto Township until it was taken over by Akron in 1837. In 1868, Whitehall became a town when it annexed the adjacent village of Northfield. In 1916, it merged with neighboring Summit to form what is now Akron. The first settler in Whitehall were John and Martha Mellon who purchased land from Nicholas Morelli on July 3, 1825. The Mellon's built a log cabin on their home farm which still stands today as one of the few remaining buildings from that period in Whitehall’s history. They raised children here and eventually moved to Battle Creek where they lived until 1840 when they again came to Ohio to live on their farm west of Dayton before moving back east to purchase more farmland near present day White Hall. The Mellon family lost all their property during the Great Depression but regained some through donations and government assistance such as mortgages which allowed them to rebuild their farm after World War II ended and keep most of it intact into the late 20th century when other farmers around themalso experienced hard times due largely to advances made by industrialization throughout much of America during those years (and later). The first post office in White hall opened on December 12, 1830 under name “Shaker Heights". It served only temporary residents until January 1st 1831 when mail started arriving from Chillicothe under name “Washington” because that was then the official territorial capital city within Ohio (the capital had been shifted from Cleveland shortly after independence). Because early post offices were run out OF SPACE IN WHITEHALL- SEE PAGE 10 OF THE MASSACHUSETTS PUBLIC LIBRARY CATALOGUE OF AMERICAN HISTORICAL LITERATURE 1861-1911) so letter carriers would deliver letters at night instead they began delivering religious tracts called "pamphlets" which also included notices about elections being held throughout Pennsylvania/West Virginia/ Maryland etc... On October 26th 1830 Elijah Cummings Postmaster General wrote: "If you find any person or persons wilful obstructing or hindering postal service we will take appropriate action against them." This type of activity continued up until 1865 when local authorities established rates for Telegraph service only which helped bring an end to this type of obstructionism since then rates have been set by state governments not by postmasters general
Whitehall is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 9,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Medina, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white people to live in Whitehall were David Rice and his family in 1814. They built a log cabin on what is now Elm Street. In 1827, John Fenton bought land from David Rice and erected a store and mill on current West Main Street which remain today as Fenton's Store. In 1830, George Stephenson built the first steamboat landing on the Scioto River at what is now Whitehall Landing (now White Hall Heights). The landing served as an access point for river traffic between Cleveland and Cincinnati until 1837 when a ferry was constructed across the river at present-day Conover Boulevard. The village of Whitehall was incorporated in 1839 by order of Governor James Prentice with Samuel Gregg as its first mayor. The village had no vote other than through annual elections held by citizens who met in igloos to discuss town business. The first school opened for students in 1840 under teacher Mrs Laughlin; it continued until 1865 when it became a conventual school run by Sisters of Stigmatine de Sales called "Stigmatine."
