Westlake is a village in the United States state of Ohio. The population was 1,486 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Wilmington, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westlake has a post office with ZIP code 45469. The name "Westlake" was first given to the community by pioneer settler Jacob Dunham in 1814 when he gave it to his son-in-law, Elijah Lovejoy. The early residents were farmers and traders who built homes on high ground overlooking the Scioto River. One such inhabitant, Hiram Warner, donated land for a public school and called it Westlake Academy after himself and his wife's birthplace in England. In 1839, John Stephenson bought property adjacent to Warner's academy and founded an agricultural college known as Western Reserve College which later became University of Cincinnati (UofC). One ofOhio's most famous natives, entertainer Frank Sinatra Jr., attended UofC from 1945 until 1951 when he transferred to Cleveland State Teachers' College (now John Carroll University) because Westlake lacked a good education opportunities for young people like him. After earning his degree from UofC, Sinatra began performing throughout Greater Cleveland before landing his biggest hit – "From Now On" – with Bing Crosby as lead vocalist on radio stations WABL in Cleveland and WDKA in Philadelphia during World War II. Sinatra also toured Europe with troops during that time period;his then 14 years old daughter Nancy accompanied him on one such performance at an airbase near Cologne Germany in 1946 Mayor Albert Shanklin grew up just downriver from where Westlake now stands and helped found Hamilton Township along with other prominent citizens including banker George Prentice Chase who would go on to be Mayor of Cleveland from 1903-1915 As industry declined throughout much of the late 20th century Westlake experienced some decline as well but recent growth has returned many businesses and residences back into use In recent years there have been efforts made by local organizations includingthe Village Green Projectto revive or renovate many original buildings within town limits while still providing access to green space TheVillageGreenProjectwasfoundedin2007byMayorShanklinandcommunitymemberJeffreyDent

Westlake, Ohio is a city in the southeastern corner of Ohio. The population was 38,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton, OH-Westerville, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westlake has been founded by two families who were immigrants from Hungary and Russia: John Lennon's paternal grandfather had come to America in 1847 and his maternal grandmother came to America in 1882. The location for what became Westlake was chosen because it lay on a bend in the Scioto River that made for easy transportation into town and also because of its fertile land. The first settler in what would become Westlake was John Lennon's father Josephine Zimmerman who arrived there with her family in 1881. There were six Zimmerman children: four boys and two girls. When Josephine died young, her husband John took over their farmstead while they raised their children. One of John's sons, Harry, married Anna Hagopian (1868-1946), one of three daughters born to Russian immigrants Nicholas Hagopian (1858-1935) and Fannie Lavinia Smith (1861-1945). Anna Hagopian was the daughter of an immigrant from Tver Province, Russia who settled in Cleveland Township about eighteen miles east of where Westlake now stands. In 1901 Harry married Mabel Flockhart (1863-1937), one of five sisters born to Irish parents James Flockhart (1786-1857) and Mary Jane Kelly (1789-1865). By 1911 there were 10 residents living on George Washington Road west of present day Main Street; four ran a small grocery store/grocery store called The Gables while six owned or operated a sawmill which turned lumber into boards and other products such as furniture before WWI stopped production when World War I began In 1915 Harry bought 9 acres northeast of present day Main Street from Jnoel Haughey & Sons Coal Co.; this property served as home until 1978 when it reverted back to Harry after Jnoel's death In 1918 local resident Edward Condon erected a large frame house on Center Avenue which he called "The First House". This house still stands today as part of Manor Park Historic District After World War II several changes took place within the town including becoming racially segregated following Jim Crow laws passed by US government during that time period branch stores being opening up throughout much needed employment opportunities However more African Americans started moving into town starting around 1960s due largely to agricultural jobs available closer to urban areas Many white businesses shut down during this time period making way for blackowned businesses Some whites even moved out completely over fear that integration would lead to them losing control over their formerly white neighborhoods
