Westlake is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Westlake was organized in 1838 and plat on land donated by James H. Westlake and his wife Catharine Beecham. The first post office in the village was established in 1840, but it was discontinued due to low postal rates at that time. In 1847, the village name was changed to Westlake Heights to honor James H.Westlake's father-in-law, George Washington Hill. In 1861, Colonel John Ladd became military governor of central Ohio and recommended that Westlake be made a separate township with its own courthouse and jail; this proposal went unheeded because of opposition from other townships within Stark County that would have been impacted by such an addition to their territory. On July 15, 1865, after much discussion among local officials about what form should take for the new township - whether it should be a city or rural area - the proposed ordinance approving creation of Westlake Township took effect without objection from any of its residents. On November 14, 1868 - one day before Cleveland Municipal Charter No. 5 became effective - voters passed an ordinance creating a school board with five members instead of three as planned and providing for home education for children up through eighth grade; this change also came into effect without objection from any residents who were already teaching their children in their homes at that time. The first class students entered Grades One through Five on October 6th following approval by trustees Meeting on October 12th; however despite high enrollment levels which indicated strong interest in learning within the community those days only 2 teachers were available to provide instruction while over 50% of all students received help from parents or guardians duringlaschool hours either evening or morning according to records kept by trustees during 1870-1875 seasons when school opened for 8 months per year instead of six months as originally planned due to weather conditions which limited opportunities for most people residing near where schools now stand to attend them during school hours outside normal working hours (eastern areas experienced better weather then western areas during 1870’s). One reason why few people lived close enoughto attend schools during regular working hours was because transportation between villages/townships/cities inside Stark Countywas expensive & unavailable wagons could not get there often enough so villagers hadTo travelhalfway&back again extra money spent

Westlake is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Westlake was George Washington Westfall who arrived in 1802. He built a cabin on the present site of Westlake Village and named it after himself. In 1807, he married Swenoree (Swenoria) McKinlay and moved to what is now downtown Westlake. The two were the first residents of what would become Westlake Village. In 1821, John Dickey established a small post office in what is now downtown Westlake and named it after himself; this became the first post office in Cuyahoga County. In 1830, James Ketchum founded the village of East Liverpool which would later become part of Cleveland. That year, Ketchum also founded West Lake Township along with other townships within Cuyahoga County as part of an effort to consolidate land holdings around Cleveland into one place. The township was organized on February 14, 1830 by order of Governor Thomas Biddle from parts of old Medina and Summit countiesqqq into new township form; it included all present-day Cuyahoga County except for portions east and north of Akron that formed Summit county qqq . On July 1, 1836 during anorganized meeting at Bloomfield Township hall convened by trustees Isaac Iverson and Elijah Hicks there were unanimous resolutions adopted authorizing trustee Edwin Ladd to purchase 640 acres (248 hectares) adjoining Bloomfield Township for use as a public school district comprising parts now located in Richland Heights/Shaker Heights or Euclid Heights/Miamisburg qqq . This parcel became known as "WestLake". On October 3rd 1870 an act authorizing trustees Jabez Bowen and Samuel Sibley to erect a tower atop Big Rock Hill near where Mount Auburn Cemetery stands today was passed by both houses with Bowen being one vote away from securing passage but failing due to illness; this tower still stands today looking out over North Beach Qqq . On November 6th 1870 Bradford Wickersham donated land southwest corner lot 7 on High Street between State Road 9A Tigers Stadium Rd & Erie Boulevard Qqq ; this lot would be home to Wickersham's grocery store until its closure in 1984 that same year when FirstEnergy bought the propertyeddy becoming newly renamed FirstEnergy ParkQqv . There are several theories about why Wickersham donated this particular piece cf land: some say because he desired more access to education than his neighbors had while others believe it may have been related to his dissatisfaction with how much work went into developing Erie Boulevard which connected Kentwood Ave & Third Avenue Qqv . According to local historian Frank Jaffa: "It’s possible that Wickersham wanted market space closer so he could compete directly with Akron’s Merchants Bank."
