The first settlers to what would become Westlake arrived on May 16, 1814 when five families from Scioto County emigrated from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania under the leadership of Capt John Armstrong and set out for land that would include present day Westlake Village and parts of today's Monroeville Township (northwest side). The first known settler was Isaac Goodyear who built a cabin near what is now Monroeville Road just east of Sawmill Creek where he raised chickens and pigs with his family before moving downriver to start another farmstead some miles westward along Sawmill Creek where he joined up with others from Scioto County to form what would become known as "The Goodyears". Over time more settlers followed suit until by 1830 there were twenty three families living within present day limits of what are now Northwest Boulevard (west side), Cemetery Rd (east side), Main St (southwest side) & Sawmill Creek Rd (northeast side). During this time many farmers took up agriculture due to favorable climate conditions such as good rainfall year round plus fertile soils that had been available since colonial times; these lands included much now including parts of today's village including Monroeville Township lying within eastern boundaries thendated Woodbury Township setback extending into modern day Montgomery County line forming today's southeast cornerurof Sawmill Creek Road/Old US 727/Today’s US 40 intersection just north othe
