Westlake is a village in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncy, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westlake's ZIP code is 44115. The village was founded in 1837 by John Cranch and others as Westlake Township on a tract of land that had been bought from the Wyandot tribe by General David Logan. In 1847, it became part of the newly created Butler County and its first mayor was George Fenton. By 1860, when Ohio passed its statehood referendum, Westlake had a total population of 3992 people; it grew to 5341 by 1920. The town hall was built in 1893 and still stands today at 209 North Main Street. One of the few remaining antebellum homes in the area is located at 10 Elm Road which also served as a post office from 1837 to 1861 In 1907, WKVX-TV (channel 38) began operations in Westlake; it would be one of only two VHF stations ever licensed to an American Village until Cleveland Channel 5 (channel 7) came online in 1996.
