In 1845 – 46 James Kapp set up shop here as a general store with much success before moving to his current location two years later on Main Street north of Center Avenue south of Euclid Avenue where he continued to operate until 1898 when he sold all his assets to Jens Gumbel from Denmark for $1 million dollars making Westlake one of America's richest small towns by 1880s standards In 1907 Wm Hays formed the American Tobacco Company here and this company would eventually grow into one of America's largest tobacco companies with operations across several states including Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee and California In 1951 General Motors began production at its new factory just east of town along State Road 8 near modern day Akron/Canton Airport creating over 50% jobs in that decade alone while also spurring development around town such as numerous new businesses opening their doors such as Wm Hays Chevrolet dealership (opened 1949), Fidelity National Bank (opened 1951), FirstEnergy Financial Services (opened 1984), Olde Hickory Grill & Pub (opened 1990). Additionally many homes were constructed durign these years like Mid-America Realty Company’s “Hickory Hill” subdivision which opened in 1957 consisting of 204 homesites; Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s plant on High Street west of downtown; Stroud Industries Inc.'s 3 story building overlooking Interstate 775 east off State Rd 8; Thornburg Storage Inc.'s large warehouse complex just outside town limits(built 1962) among many others With increased industry came more traffic congestion causing streets within easy walking distance to fill up with cars oftenTimes becoming gridlocked during busy periods meaning residents had little choice but to leave their neighborhoods altogether This situation finally began to change beginning in the late 1990s when Mayor Tom Foley initiated several initiatives designed specifically towards improving transportation options within minutes walkable distances including developing plans for both expressways coming through town as well as expanding I-271 outlying villages providing access to pickups/droppings directly off I-71 without having to go down blocks or down Interstates 14 or 71

With Kappes' death and victory over Canada's forces being recognized as a sign of American strength and invincibility within India itself, many people began to call for a plaza or square to be named for him near where he died. On December 15th, 1830 – two days before President Andrew Johnson became president – Congress passed an act entitled "An Act to erect a Monument to General James Kappes" and dedicated government property east side of Market Street between First and Second Streets to this end. This event is considered one of the early manifestations of modern metropolitan development patterns across North America with large cities emerging along transportation routes connected by markets and highways like Interstate 95 created through annexation agreements among adjacent towns/cities during the late 19th century known as " metropolitan areas." In 1853, when Partridge & Haworth erected their brick building on East Erie Boulevard just southwest of today's corner shopping mall known as Quicken Loans Arena (now Paul Brown Stadium), they were followed by other businesses such as Thalmeyer's Brewery which opened in 1854; Joesphine bakery located on Euclid Avenue from 1865 until 1870; Hennepin Brewing Company from 1870 until 1886; Wm Fenton & Sons Hardware Store from 1886 until 1903; Gilded Age drugstore chain store Harry S Truman Drugstore opened its doors west side off Third Street between Harrison and Clinton Streets on November 20th 1923 - three weeks after Franklin D Roosevelt became president - marking what has come to be known as "the opening of Main Street" in Cleveland In 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt convened his first federal commission on public works chaired by Professor Alfred Payson Blair which recommended investment into streetcar construction throughout Greater Cleveland under then Mayor William Whitehead - also head of City Planning Department - resulting inWWII suburbanization efforts spearheaded by Mayor Whitehead's successor John Coxoley .
