Westlake is a town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 12,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Westlake was made on the site of what is now the Town of Westlake Park by two families in 1827. The name "Westlake" was given to the town by British soldiers who were stationed there during the American Revolutionary War. The first post office in Westlake was established in 1835, and it continued serving until 1860. The first store in what is nowWestlake opened its doors on November 5, 1836. The town developed rapidly and by 1840 had a population of over 150 people. In 1851, Wm Cranch became one of the incorporators for Westlake Township which he named after his father-in-law, Daniel Webster Chase Sr., one of Ohio's most influential citizens and a delegate to both the Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln political conventions that year. By 1865, when Iowa Territory was formed from parts of Ohio and Indiana, Western Lake had become one of its major centers due to its location on an important trade route between Cincinnati and St Louis (via Illinois). In 1870 it also became an incorporated village with a populations around 100 people; however this declined following annexation by Dayton in 1907 as part of that city's growth into centralOH area In 1902-1903 construction began on what would later be known as First Methodist Church (now First Congregational) located at 202 Third Street SE; this building served as home church for more than 200 years until it burned down in 2000 while being renovated/repaired During World War II many factories were built near or within walking distance of Westlake including Ford Motor Company's Willow Run plant which produced P-47 Thunderbolt fighters for RAF(British Air Force) pilots; other plants included Minton Glass Works producing bottles for General Motors' Flint Hills truck production line; Alcoa's Batavia aluminum smelting plant manufacturedWinchester rifles under license from Winchester Repeating Arms Co.; Allis Chalmers Manufacturing[sic] Beef products out their Toledo factory into canning season then shipping back to market; all products were destroyed during battle damage caused by bombing raids over Germany .....
