Westlake is a town in Wayne County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,827 at the 2010 census. It was the seventh-largest community in Wayne County by population at the 2000 census. Westlake is located on the southern border of University Heights, a large suburb of Cleveland. The first ammunition plant in America was built here in 1815 by Nicholas Negley and Solomon Marksman & Co., who also built the first steamboat on Lake Erie. Ammunition production continued until about 1914 when it stopped because of World War I rationing. In 1919, Alcoa opened its second ammunition plant here; this time with 1 million rounds per day being produced from new advancements in metal casting and welding technology. Ammunition productions continued until 1978, when it ended because of an increase in lead-based ammo use due to increased terrorism and other threats. In 1990 King's Arms Manufacturing Corporation closed its manufacturing plant here after years of operations that included producing items such as hunting rifles and shotguns for both hunters and sport shooters across North America. In recent years it has reopened as a retail store selling ammunition products direct to customers online only

Westlake is a town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,036 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Daytona Beach–Middletown, OH-MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westlake's history dates back to 1796 when it was founded by pioneers John and Martha White. The town became a city on November 3, 1907. It was named for General George Armstrong Custer who died in 1885 during the American Civil War. In 1915, Westlake joined with other cities in what became the Dayton metropolitan area and continued to be a separate municipality until its merger with Middletown on January 1, 1997. Prior to that time it was known as "Westlake Township". In 1998, the name of Westlake was changed again to "Westville" after residents voted 91% in favor of changing it from a village name to an official one. As part of the deal between Middletown and Dayton City Councils which merged those two municipalities into one on January 1, 1997, Westville received city rights but retained itsVillage Name status so that residents could still refer to themselves as "villagers" within their own municipality even if they lived elsewhere within the new Dayton-Middletown area. The historical center of Westlake is located along Main Street which runs through its core; this street has been also called Main Street USA since 1959 due to its role as an important artery for commerce and transportation throughout most ofLucas County and much of eastern Ohio. Other major streets include Oak Run (which runs northwest out of town), Washington Avenue (west from Main), Elm Street (southwest from Main), Indianola Avenue (northwest from Main) and Grant Avenue (east fromMain). Many homes were built along these routes over time including many large frame houses dating back to before American independence or even earlier such as: a house built by Jonathan Edwards near present day Oak Run in 1800; another house on Washburn Road erected by Judge David Wills in 1847; or another large frame home built near Grant Ave., especially during the late 19th century/early 20th century such as: model home #1 at 3754 Washington Ave., now occupied by local business owner Deanne Hirschman.; all three being among perhaps only a few dozen examples remaining today remaining largely unchanged from their pre-1997 incarnation
