When Ohio became a U.S. state in 1803, there were only three shooting ranges in the state: in Cincinnati, Dayton and Zanesville. The first target holders company to be established in Westerville was The Western Shooting Club of Westerville, Inc., founded by two men from Cincinnati – John Fenton and Nicholas Waddell. In 1892, the club opened a new range on North Main Street with a 6-foot drinking fountains as targets. In 1902, the club moved to its current location on Third Street and added a 10-foot water spout target for realism. That same year, The Western Shooting Club also founded the Westerville Rifle & Pistol Association (WRPA). The WRPA is still one of the most influential rifle and pistol organizations in the country today. In 1912, Edward “Ted” Laughlin purchased land at what is now north west corner of Fifth Street and Elm Avenue in Westerville from David Haggerty for $2,500. Laughlin developed this land into what is now known as “Laughlin Park” which included an 8-hole golf course that he turned into a public recreation area for residents and visitors alike. From its inception until his death in 1935, Ted Laughlin was responsible for developing nearly all aspects of Westerville’s shooting history including both development of our current range complex on First Street NW as well as establishing many other important community associations such as the JROTC program which currently occupies much of that park!

Westerville is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census. Westerville is the most populous municipality in Medina County and one of four municipalities in that county (the others are Akron and Canton). It is also one of two townships in Medina County, along withLocated east-of-the-river Township.(west) to form an unincorporated community known as "Westerville Township." The first settler in what became Westerville was Isaac Myers who built a cabin on the Scioto River in 1792. A schoolhouse and other buildings were erected soon after by settlers such as James K. Caldwell, John Sibley, Jonas Toomer and others. In 1805, George Washington Carver came to Westerville to purchase land for his mill which he named Carver's Mill after himself. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location near transportation hubs including Dayton and Toledo respectively. By 1830, it had over 100 residents. Census data from 1870 show that Westerville had become a center for trade with both the eastern United States and Great Britain because of its location on the river's edge between Cincinnati and Dayton Riverside Wayside Market & Mercantile Co., Inc., now part of IHOP restaurant chain In 1872, mail service began operating through Westervilletowrence Post Office (renamed Middleton post office in 1902), which would remain operational until 1975 when it was discontinued due to budget cuts by then governor David Strickland Sr.. In 1893 an gristmill operated by Peter Wistar became co-operative with three others around that time forming what would become known as The Granite Flour Mills Company Ltd.; this company manufactured flour until 1967 when operations were taken over by American Flour Mills Company Limited.. During World War II production stopped but mills continued to produce food supplies for soldiers under contract out of local homes On September 26th 1905 locals celebrated their centennial anniversary with a parade down Main Street featuring floats made from ice cream cones, candy bars, hot dogs etc... afterwards they attended a picnic at Beechcroft Park where barbeque items were served . On July 1st 1951 local historian Dr William Fenton published his book about our town entitled "A History Of Westervillette" which sold well online As recently as 2000 there still remained businesses active downtown like Johnny Rockets restaurant/bar/video store; however mom & pop stores have begun closing down all across America citing economic recession A new hospital has been built just outside town limits called University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center& has brought many jobs into town such as nurses& doctors . Westerville, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Cumberland River between Dayton and Cincinnati. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Cincinnati metropolitan area and is home to the Westerville State Fairgrounds and Westerville Municipal Airport. The first permanent settler in what would become Westerville was Levi Coffin in 1814. He named his community after his birthplace in Vermont, Vermont, where he had been born that year. A post office called Westerville was established in 1837, and its first Postmaster General was James Fenton from 1840 to 1845. In 1851, a railroad line extended through WesterVILLE from Dayton to Cincinnati, which made it an important commercial center for both cities. After several years of growth, however, severe financial troubles caused by over-expansion led to the fall of Cleveland's cotton production during the Panic of 1893 and a rapid decline in business activity throughout much of America; this also affected WesterVILLE economically. In 1899, most residents left for good when the city annexed all but one block of landowning Irish Americans living near downtown because they could not afford to pay property taxes above $1 per acre (which at that time still constituted high rates). By 1906 only about 20% of residents were still living within city limits; by 1970 less than 1% did so remaining poor as compared with funding levels necessary for public services such as libraries and schools beyond those within city limits thanks largely to state appropriations dating back to 1975 apportioned following enactment of The Community Reinvestment Act Amendments (CRA). By 1990 almost all low-income housing had been demolished or replaced with new developments concentrated along Interstate 270 corridor outside city boundaries ceding valuable open space Downtown including much significant economic development once relied upon by locals for transportation/jobs/housing availability now largely off limits due lack or unwillingness by developers theretoforth seeking other uses not related thereto now resulting in increasing crime rates among otherwise law abiding citizens causing many businesses closed up shop reducing local economy essentially impacting quality of life overall while providing little if any return on investment over time despite increased real estate values creating opportunities unique among major American cities becoming increasingly unaffordable especially since world recession began shrinking market share & volume occurring at same time inner-city cores experiencing sharpest gentrification trends displacing long term residents leaving behind longtime residents majority black & Hispanic Majority white
Westerville, Ohio was founded in 1824 by Captain John Westervelt and his fellow settlers. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Great Lakes region, as well as its natural resources. In 1836, Westerville became the seat of government for the newly formed Athens County. Over time, Westerville became a bustling community with a growing economy. By the late 1800s, Westerville had become one of the largest cities in Ohio. In 1910, Westerville was renamed Columbus because of the city's role in World War I. After Columbus' victory over Germany in that war, many residents chose to rename their local businesses after soldiers or other military figures from that conflict. By 1920, however, most businesses in WesterVILLE had been renamed again. The city experienced some growth during the 1960s and 1970s when it saw an influx of students from nearby universities such as Ohio State and Cincinnati University. During this time period, much of downtown was renovated and new housing was built including a movie theater and several high-end restaurants
